Welcome to Championship Sunday. The Super Bowl gets all the glamor and praise, but in my opinion, Championship Sunday is the best day of the year for us football fans. We get the two best matchups, and the games don’t drag on or take up the entire day. Betting on the fact that you are most likely making food and drink arrangements, placing wagers, and soaking up as much football content as you can leading up to the games, we won’t waste your time. Let’s get straight to our favorite DFS picks for today’s games.
Cash Plays
Josh Allen (DK $6,900 | FD $8,500)/Stefon Diggs (DK $7,000 | FD $8,300)
Allen and Diggs have been locked in and are among the best quarterback-receiver combos we’ve seen this season. In the playoffs, they have connected 14 times for 234 yards and two touchdowns. That will continue this week, especially with the Chiefs’ top cornerback Bashaud Breeland not being 100 percent healthy coming into the game. This game shapes up to be a shootout, with both teams averaging over 29 points per game on the season. Look for Allen and Diggs to continue their playoff success as they try to lead Buffalo to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1994.
Devin Singletary (DK $4,500 | FD $5,800)
Singletary isn’t your typical Cash Game running back, but we severely lack at the position on this slate. It’s difficult to believe the Bills will run the ball much, given that they threw the ball over 70 percent of the time last week against a tougher Baltimore Ravens secondary. Singletary played 84 percent of snaps last week, which was his highest percentage since Week 13 when he totaled 83 yards from scrimmage. I think the Chiefs defense will do all they can to stop Allen, which could open the door for Singletary to have a decent game receiving out of the backfield.
Chris Godwin (DK $5,400 | FD $6,800)
Jaire Alexander is starting to get the recognition he deserves as one of the top cornerbacks in the league. However, the Packers generally play him on one side of the field most of the time. When he is shadow covering, it’s more likely that he shadow covers Mike Evans. With Antonio Brown out, Godwin should see plenty of targets from Tom Brady and a lot of slot work. I’ll eat the chalk with Godwin. Expect him to provide a good enough floor to get what you need out of him in Cash Games.
Travis Kelce (DK $8,000 | FD $8,600)
Kelce is by far the best tight end left in the playoffs, and it is well worth paying up for him. He has scored a touchdown for five straight games. The Bills defense has allowed nine touchdowns to tight ends this season. Two of those went to Kelce back in week six. He is Patrick Mahomes‘ go-to target in the middle of the field. With Mahomes being cleared to play, you can play Kelce with plenty of confidence going into the championship games.
Other Options: Patrick Mahomes, Davante Adams, Aaron Jones, Tyreek Hill
GPP/Tournament Plays
Ronald Jones (DK $4,600 | FD $5,600)
The running backs on this slate are pretty ugly. Jones has the potential to be the top scorer and comes in at a reasonable price. He was able to turn 13 carries into 62 yards last week against a very good Saints defense. This week he faces a much weaker rush defense. The Packers have struggled against running backs this season. They allowed 15 rushing touchdowns. They even allowed Jones to rush for 113 yards and two touchdowns in their last meeting. After sitting against Washington in the first round of the playoffs, Jones looked fresh enough last week. Fire him up at lower ownership than Leonard Fournette.
Allen Lazard (DK $4,200 | FD $5,700)
Last week, Lazard flashed his big-play capability on a 58-yard touchdown from Aaron Rodgers. In that game, he had eight total targets catching four of them. With all of the focus on Adams, that will leave plenty of opportunities for Lazard to have another big game, especially against a Buccaneers team that has allowed 20 touchdowns to wide receivers this season.
John Brown (DK $4,300 | FD $5,600)
Someone outside of Diggs is going to get targets and receptions. Logically, the way to attack the Chiefs’ defense is in the middle of the field or by utilizing slot receivers. However, most of the public understands this, leading to higher ownership for Cole Beasley. Brown has missed quite a bit of action this year due to injury, but he remains a strong deep-ball weapon that many people forget about. Brown is ahead of Gabriel Davis on the depth chart, and he is second to only Davis in aDOT (12.58), percentage of targets 20-plus yards downfield (22.64 percent), and yards per reception (13.9). If you’re looking for big-play potential and a chance to take down a tournament, Brown is your guy.
Robert Tonyan (DK $3,600 | FD $5,700)
Adams is the obvious pass-catching option for the Packers. With that said, Tonyan has been consistently getting looks from Rodgers. More specifically, his end zone target share ranks second on the team behind Adams at 20 percent. Tonyan has at least one touchdown catch in 56 percent of his games this season. That’s a solid gamble at lower ownership than Adams, and you could always jam both into the same lineup.
Other Options: Mike Evans, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, any Cash Game options.
Dart Throws
Darrel Williams ($4,800 DK | $6,000 FD)
Clyde Edwards-Helaire is expected to give it a go after missing last week’s game with an ankle and hip injury. While many people expect CEH to get the workhorse type of role that he had most of the season, pivoting to Williams could be a solid strategy once again. It’s entirely possible that CEH isn’t fully healthy, and we are looking at a similar situation as Jones was in against the Washington Football Team, where he was active but didn’t play. Head Coach Andy Reid is beginning to trust Williams more and more, giving him 79 percent of the snaps last week. He ran for 78 yards and added four catches for 16 yards. Even if CEH winds up getting more work, Williams could always poach a touchdown away from him.
Tyler Johnson (DK $3,000 | FD $4,600)
This was much more of a dart throw leading up to this weekend’s game. However, since Antonio Brown was ruled out on Friday afternoon, Johnson will be higher owned this week. He will see more opportunities as the wide receiver three. With Mike Evans and Chris Godwin being banged up and Evans drawing Alexander, Johnson should be one of Brady’s top targets. Last week, he only saw 15 snaps but made one of the best catches in the playoffs this season.
