The winless New York Jets travel to take on the undefeated New England Patriots on Sept. 22 in Week 3 of the 2019 NFL season.
The Patriots, coming off a huge win against the Dolphins, host the struggling Jets, fresh off their crushing loss to the Browns. In last week’s Jets game, backup Trevor Siemian, in the game in place of Sam Darnold (mononucleosis), was on the receiving end of a big hit from Myles Garrett that crushed his leg and forced his season to come to an end less than half an hour after it started. Sophomore quarterback Luke Falk, who is eerily similar to Tom Brady in several ways, took over but couldn’t pick apart the Cleveland defense.
Luke Falk is… TOM BRADY!??!?!
– Both picked 199 in Draft
– Both 6'4''
– Both age 24 for first start
– Both making Week 3 debut as starter
– Both face NFL legend in first start (Brady vs Peyton in '01) pic.twitter.com/5K0l6axJ3r— CBS Sports HQ (@CBSSportsHQ) September 19, 2019
The Patriots lead the series 63-53-1, having won the past six against New York. The Pats defeated the Jets in their most recent contest on December 30, 2018, by a score of 38-3. Adam Gase is 2-4 against the Pats due to his time with the Dolphins, while Belichick is 29-11 all-time against the Jets.
New England is averaging 38 points scored and 1.5 points allowed each game this year, a very impressive ratio. The Jets, meanwhile, average 9.5 points scored and 20 points allowed. The Patriots’ 423 total yards of offense far exceeds New York’s 242.5 yards.
The Patriots will be without Antonio Brown this week after the team released him yesterday, but that shouldn’t be an issue at all for the Patriots.
Falk completed 20 of 25 pass attempts for 198 yards in his NFL debut last week, but he likely won’t fare as well against the Patriots in his first career start.
Compared to the rest of the league, the Patriots have the fifth-best offense, the top-ranked defense, fifth-best passing unit, and 14th-best rushing unit. That is far better than the Jets’ rankings, which sees them listed as the 21st-best defense, 25th-best rushing unit, 29th-best passing unit, and 31st-best offense.

Prediction
The New England Patriots, led by the league’s best defense and the world’s greatest quarterback of all-time, should be able to defeat the Jets, led by a third-stringer with little experience, in Massachusetts this week.
