New England Revolution vs Vancouver Whitecaps Preview

The New England Revolution look to continue their eight-game unbeaten streak in the MLS Wednesday night as they host the Vancouver Whitecaps at Gillette Stadium. The Whitecaps are bottom of the Western Conference with 20 points from 21 games played, while the Revolution are ninth in the Eastern Conference with 24 points from 20 games played.

Under Bruce Arena, the Revolution have turned into a much stronger side, having only lost to Orlando in the Round of 16 of the U.S. Open Cup in his time as head coach. The Revolution’s last match was a disappointing 2-2 draw against D.C. United, where New England went up 2-0 in the first 35 minutes, but a Wilfried Zahibo red in the 63rd minute saw them go down a man and D.C. equalized in the 86th minute.

The Whitecaps have not won since May 25th, beating FC Dallas 2-1 at home. Vancouver was beaten 3-0 by Sporting Kansas City in their last outing, making it their third straight loss. Fullback Ali Adnan scored an own goal to open the scoring, and will also serve a one-match suspension against the Revolution for picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

New England will be looking forward to their new singing Gustavo Bou from Liga MX side Club Tijuana. The Argentine forward will look to help the Revolution goal-scoring issue, as the club is the fourth-lowest in the MLS for goals scored. The 29-year-old will look to link up with the attractive playmaker in Carles Gil who has had a strong start to the season with five goals and assists in 20 matches.

The match kicks off at 7:00 P.M. with weather permitting, as thunderstorms are in the forecast for Wednesday’s match.
