New England Patriots True or False: July Edition

New England Patriots True or False: July Edition

Another month and another New England Patriots true or false. This offseason continues to slowly climb towards the opening week of football in September, but we are still a ways away. While the Patriots have not had any notable practices since our last installment of true or false, there are some big days on the horizon as well as several other topics to cover.

Let’s get into it.

Should the Patriots Have Made the Move for Julio Jones?

True. This one is a tad bit outdated by now, but looking back, they should have done this. The Tennessee Titans acquired Jones for a 2022 second-round pick and a 2023 fourth-rounder. For a premier talent like Jones, this was a severe underpay. New England absolutely had enough ammunition to pull off this deal, and they really dropped the ball here. They’ll still be fine, and they still have an excellent system in place for the players they have, but Jones is a game-changer. Bill Belichick should have made this deal.

Will the Patriots Confine to the Fan Favorites?

False. There are a couple of lesser-known players around the Patriots’ organization that all the fans seem to love. Gunner Olszewski, J.J. Taylor, Isaiah Zuber, and Jarrett Stidham (debatably) headline the group. With all of the acquisitions New England made this offseason, some of these players are bound to be cut. That doesn’t mean that new fan favorites won’t be born, though. Players like Jonnu Smith and Kendrick Bourne are new additions that were loved in their old cities because of their play and personalities. Overall, the cut season may feature some bitter moves, but plenty of new fan favorites will emerge.

Should Fans Be Concerned About the UDFA Situation?

False. Belichick and the Patriots’ front office have been more or less known to develop late-round and UDFA players into very solid NFL contributors. This year, however, they’ve only signed one UDFA. That man is Quinn Nordin, a kicker out of Michigan. Nordin is almost guaranteed not to make the roster because of Nick Folk‘s tremendous success last year, and it marks a pretty interesting situation in New England. It seemed they only signed one UDFA because of the lack of players in this year’s draft. The Patriots have almost forever been over the league average in UDFAs making the NFL roster, and now, they’ve only given one a tiny chance at it. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, and we are not going to challenge the greatest coach of all time.

Are the Playoffs Actually Realistic?

True. The AFC is incredibly crowded right now, but there’s no doubt that this team that can make the playoffs. If Cam Newton (or Mac Jones) can catch some fire early on, the Patriots should have a very good record come playoff time. Their schedule is really not too difficult and they definitely have drawn some of the worst teams in the league to get some nice wins early on. New England does face their fair share of difficult opponents including the Buccaneers, Browns, and Titans, but these are three very winnable games. Meanwhile, they should be able to take care of the rest with marginal losses.
