The New England Revolution took on Orlando SC at Gillette Stadium with nearly 20,000 in attendance. The Revolution fans have been living the high life as their team had gone 10 straight matches unbeaten under Bruce Arena, with the win tonight making it 11.
New England got off to an earlier start from their new star signing Gustavo Bou, who backheel-passed to Cristian Penilla who drove inside and gave the ball back to Bou, who took a touch to create space and drive the ball into the back of the net. The Argentinian’s third-minute goal gave the Revolution a 1-0 lead.
Both teams traded chances and the score didn’t change going into halftime, but only two minutes out of the half the Revolution would grab their second tally. Brandon Bye would drive down the right side of the field and play a ball that trickled across the area to the oncoming foot of Penilla who calmly slotted it home for the 2-0 lead.
It took only 13 minutes for a third, as Carles Gil would score from the penalty spot. The Video Assistant Referee was called into play as there was a handball on an Orlando defender following an attempt on goal. Gil’s penalty sent the keeper the wrong way and New England continued to run rampant.
The Revs would add yet another to their tally from an outstanding effort from Diego Fagundez. The Uruguayan midfielder would take his space and rip off a shot from the edge of the area that rifled it’s way into the top far post corner.
Orlando grabbed one back from Tesho Akindele two minutes later, but it would be too late as the 4-1 score would stand and Gillette would erupt following the final whistle.
The Revolution’s dominance will be tested next Saturday, as they host Los Angeles F.C., who sit atop the Western Conference with 49 points in 22 games played. LAFC has the most points in the MLS by 10, with Philadelphia Union behind them in second.
The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and will be a true test for Arena’s new-look Revolution.
