The NBA bubble madness is about to end. Only four teams remain standing. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat breezed through two rounds of playoff games to get to where they are now, while the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets had to grind their way to survive the previous round.
There are now four possible scenarios when it comes to the NBA Finals and each of them can provide a little more drama… if you know what to look for.
IF CELTICS VS. LAKERS:
This series has to be the most anticipated one. The Celtics and the Lakers have met numerous times before and fans of all generations are going to be watching this for sure! This series alone could probably fix the NBA’s problem of having low ratings. They will be meeting for the 13th time if this dream scenario happens!
The Celtics have 17 titles and the Lakers have 16. The days of Boston fans saying “We have the most!” might end soon. Expect fans of the Celtics to remain calm because they have a better head-to-head record.
Awkward moments:
–Rajon Rondo used to play for the Celtics and even won a title with them. You could add Avery Bradley as another ex-Celtic but he’s currently out of the bubble.
–Danny Ainge, general manager of the Celtics, will feel nostalgic during this series. He used to be a part of this rivalry during his playing days in Boston. Facing the juggernaut Lakers might result in sleepless nights for him though.
IF HEAT VS. LAKERS:
Expect everyone to be talking about Pat Riley (Heat President) if this series takes place. Riley was the head coach of the Lakers during the “ShowTime” era.
Other awkward moments:
–LeBron James played for the Heat and won 2 titles for Miami.
–Dion Waiters started the NBA season with the Heat and then joined the Lakers before the bubble games started.
–Andre Iguodala (Heat) and JaVale McGee (Lakers) were teammates in Denver. They were also teammates playing for the Golden State Warriors.
–Solomon Hill (Heat) used to play with Anthony Davis and Rajon Rondo two years ago. Hill, Davis, and Rondo were members of the New Orleans Pelicans. Davis and Rondo are now with the Lakers.
IF CELTICS VS. NUGGETS:
If this scenario happens, everyone will be talking about how the Nuggets finally made it to the NBA Finals for the first time since joining the NBA in 1976.
Awkward Moment:
–Paul Millsap (Nuggets) will be playing against Enes Kanter and Gordon Hayward. Millsap, Kanter, and Hayward were members of the Utah Jazz. Kanter and Hayward are teammates again playing for Boston.
IF HEAT VS. NUGGETS:
Nuggets making the NBA Finals for the first time will be talked about… a lot!
Awkward moments:
-Iguodala (Heat) used to play for the Nuggets during the 2012-13 season.
-Who will Slovenians root for? Slovenia will be well represented in this series because of Vlatko Cancar (Nuggets) and Goran Dragic (Heat).
Basketball fans are pumped up for the NBA Finals and they’ll be sad soon because they know the season is going to end in 12 games… or less!
