National Mock Drafts for the Buffalo Bills

The draft season is quickly approaching, and that can only mean one thing.

Mock Drafts!

This is the time of year, everyone will come out and claim they know what their team needs and exactly who their team will draft.

Well, in reality, nobody knows for sure.

But, why should that stop me from joining in on the fun, anyway? Here is a look at what people around the country believe that Buffalo Bills will do during the draft.

OT Jonah Williams

The Bills have a history of drafting on defense, and now they try to build on the offensive side of the ball. The first step is to try to protect last year’s first-round pick and franchise quarterback Josh Allen. That starts with improving one of (if not the) worst offensive lines in the league.

Williams is a stud coming out of high school as a five-star recruit and playing right away for a National Championship contender at Alabama. He is a three-year starter and played in the last three National Championship games. As the anchor of the offensive line, Williams is a refined machine and can slide right into the starting lineup day one.

Although the Bills would really like to trade down and pick up additional draft picks in the second and third rounds, at the moment there just does not seem to be another team that could line up on a deal that would make sense for both sides.

Also considered drafting: WR DK Metcalf, OT Ja’waan Taylor, TE Noah Fant

Mel Kiper Jr: ESPN

WR DK Metcalf

“Quarterback Josh Allen had an up-and-down rookie season in Buffalo, but he needs better pass-catching options in Year 2. That’s how we can fully evaluate his development. You might remember Metcalf from this viral photo from last week — he’s a 6-foot-4, 230-pound physical specimen who is going to test well at the combine. There is some projection here, as Metcalf missed most of the 2018 season with a scary neck injury and only caught 67 passes in his college career. But he is a big-play threat who is the best ‘big’ receiver in this class.”

WR DK Metcalf

“Metcalf might be the truth, man. I dunno. If he does at the Combine what he’s supposedly able to do in training, we’re going to be talking about an elite physical prospect at the position. A once-in-a-decade tester.

“And then, you throw on the film. We have a guy who knows how to use his size and quickness to release; to separate downfield; to win at the catch-point. I’m always skeptical of pre-Indy reports on how players will test, but Metcalf could enter Top-5 conversations if everything goes according to reports.

“And for Buffalo, this could be a coup d’etat. Metcalf has the potential to be that WR who, in his dominance, completely elevates the entire offense, especially his quarterback. I couldn’t be more excited about this pick.”

OT Jonah Williams

“Are Williams’ arms long enough to play tackle in the NFL? Yes. It’s hard to believe this has become a talking point after Williams dominated the 2018 season. He’ll be a starter for the next decade, which is great news for second-year quarterback Josh Allen who spent much of his rookie season running for his life.”

DT Ed Oliver

“Will significantly alter the draft needs the Bills have. We know that Beane will be judicious in his free-agent selections, will want a veteran in every room, and will put the Bills in a position to draft BPA in the first round. OL, WR, RB, TE, and DL are the most-unsettled positions for the Bills. I would argue that the free-agent pickings are slimmest for DL right now. I expect OL free agents (OC Matt Paradis; OTs Daryl Williams, Donovan Smith, Trent Brown; and OGs Mitch Morse, Travis Swanson, Ramon Foster) will be paying a visit to OBD.

“McBeane’s makes Ed Oliver a huge temptation in a DL-rich draft, should he even fall this far –and he has. Kyle Williams‘ 388 solo tackles need to be replaced. On the other hand, the Bills have scouted Jerry Tillery pretty hard, and he might be there in RD2. D.K. Metcalf, the draft’s top WR, is still on the board, but some free agents and RD2 options are tantalizing. What do you think?”

Trevor Sikkema: The Draft Network

OT Jonah Williams

“The Bills could certainly get themselves a playmaker for quarterback Josh Allen to throw to, and because of that guys like D.K. Metcalf, Kelvin Harmon and even T.J. Hockenson could come into play. But you can’t throw if you can’t protect, and that’s why I have the Bills taking Williams to bolster their trenches.”

As you can see, there are varied opinions as to who the Bills should go for during the draft. But one thing is for sure: there will be plenty of playmakers available to be selected on Day 2.
