This week the NASCAR Cup Series heads to the track most famous for the Indy cars and the Indianapolis 500. The race this weekend is the Brickyard 400. The 400 is not nearly as big as the 500. However, it is still one of those races that drivers really want to win. Kissing the bricks is a huge moment for the teams no matter which series they are racing in.
Last week NASCAR had its first Cup series doubleheader at Pocono. In those races, we saw Kevin Harvick win on Saturday followed by Denny Hamlin on Sunday. Indianapolis is similar to Pocono because it is a flat 2.5-mile track. However, unlike Pocono where we saw a bunch of different fuel strategies this weekends race typically is not as wild with strategies. Now let’s jump into my core four of drivers for the Brickyard 400.
Dominator
Joey Logano ($9,200 DK and $12,500 FD)
Logano has had a rough stretch the last four races. His best finish in those four races is 17th. He started off the season on fire with two wins in the first four races. However, post-Corona he has yet to win. This week he will be starting on the pole. That could be just what he needs to get back on track. Look for him to dominate early, lead some laps, and contend for the win.
Mid Value
Clint Bowyer ($9,000 DK and $9,500 FD)
Bowyer is set up to have a really solid fantasy day this week. He’s starting 22nd and he is coming off back to back top tens last week at Pocono. He is also coming off back to back fifth-place finishes at Indianapolis. He averages 33.8 fantasy points per race this season. However, three out of the four times he has started worst than 20th he was able to score 50 plus points. Look for Bowyer to pick up his sixth top ten finish this season and score 50 plus points.
Matt DiBenedetto ($8,300 DK and $8,700 FD)
Matty D has really benefited from driving for the Penske affiliated Wood Brothers car. He has put together four top tens so far this season in only 15 races. For his career, he only has 15 top 10 finishes in 191 total races. He has the talent and is finally able to showcase that with better equipment. He has some good finishes at Indy and even finished top ten back in 2018. Look for Dibenedetto to have a strong run this week and be a dark horse to pick up his first career victory.
Value
Corey Lajoie ($5,500 DK and $4,800 FD)
The value drivers are typically though to pick week in and week out. The best way for them to score points is place differential. Lajoie will be starting 31st this week. That gives him a good chance to get some place differential points. His average finish this year is 23rd. Last year at Indy, he finished 19th. If he’s able to get another top 20, he will be one of the better values on this slate.
