For some odd reason, whenever the Boston Bruins lose a crucial game their fanbase tends to put the blame on either their goaltender Tuukka Rask or second-line centerman David Krejci.
While Rask is a story for another time, Krejci has been a hot topic this offseason, as Bruins fans have been attempting to find an answer to their favorite team’s Game 7 collapse against the St. Louis Blues in the 2019 Stanley Cup Final.
For the past five seasons, Krejci has been prone to injury. However, this past season the 33-year-old suited up and played in 81 games. Within those 81 games, Krejci tallied 20 goals and 53 assists for 73 points which tied his season-high point total.
It seems to be that Bruins fans tend to forget this information or are not aware of his season statistics at all because the “Well that is what he is supposed to and should be putting up season after season,” assertion comes in. 73 points in a season are impressive especially when he has a young, inconsistent yet developing winger in Jake DeBrusk on his left side and a different player every other game on his right wing.
The thing is, even Krejci is aware of the constant change in line-mates throughout the past season and has made comments on the situation and frustration on creating chemistry as well.
“It’s 82 games, right? You’re going to go through some tough times,” Krejci told the Boston Herald. “I think that’s what’s most important to me. Because I believe in these guys and in this room, there’s a right fit for me. But just to stay together, to create a chemistry, to create a bond on and off the ice. We all get along really well. Me and JD [Jake DeBrusk]. We’ve been on the line for the last couple of years and we get along great off the ice. We find the other guy and create the same bond as I have with JD, that’s something I would look forward to.”
Bruins fans should instead put their focus on sharing their frustration with Krejci in the hope of finding a reliable right-wing who can contribute to the on and off-ice chemistry with Krejci and DeBrusk.
