Monday Night Football DFS: Week 5

Monday night’s matchup features a Hall of Fame quarterback and a young rookie quarterback looking for his first victory. Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers head into the Superdome to face off against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. Herbert was officially named the rest of the season starter this week after he took over for an injured Tyrod Taylor in Week 2. Unfortunately for Taylor, the doctor that punctured his lung also cost him his starting position. Let’s jump right into my top players for this Monday night battle.

DK Captain

Hunter Henry (DK Captain $11,700 | FD $9,500)

The Saints have not had much success at stopping tight ends this year. They have allowed a total of five touchdowns in only four games this season. Henry has not scored a touchdown this season, so he is due. This is a perfect bounce-back matchup for him. The Chargers should be playing from behind, so Henry should get some more targets even though last week he only had two receptions for 39 yards. Playing him at the Captain spot will allow you plenty of salary to afford Brees and Alvin Kamara. Look for Henry to have his best game of the season and snag a touchdown or two.

FanDuel MVP

Drew Brees (DK $10,400 | FD $14,500)

We all know that Brees and the Chargers have plenty of history. Brees hurt his shoulder in the final game of the 2005 season for the Chargers, and that led to them keeping Philip Rivers over Brees. Brees has played the Chargers three times since then. In those three games, the Saints have won them all, and Brees has averaged over 300 yards and three touchdowns against them. He’s also going up against a defense that just allowed Tom Brady to throw for 369 yards and five touchdowns. Look for Brees to put together a great game as he has done many times on Monday night football.

Utility

Alvin Kamara (DK $12,000 | FD $16,000)

Michael Thomas has missed the last three games because of an ankle injury. This week he is out of the game because of a fight in practice. The Saints are making him sit to discipline him, but it will also give him another week for his ankle to heal. In his absence, Kamara has been the MVP for the Saints. He already has seven touchdowns and leads the Saints in receiving and rushing yards. With Thomas out, Brees will continue to throw to Kamara. Last week was his worst fantasy week, and he still ended up with 20.9 points on DraftKings. He will continue his success this week and will be the focal point of the Saints offense once again.

Latavius Murray (DK $4,800 | FD $8,000)

The Saints have been using Murray a lot when leading in the game. They are 2-2, and in games when the Saints win, Murray has seen double-digit touches. Outside of week two against the Las Vegas Raiders, Murray has seen plenty of snaps to provide value. He is, however, game script dependent. This week the Saints should be able to take care of business, get an early lead, and win this game. Look for the Saints to come out with a heavy dose of Kamara and Murray and control the game early and often on the ground.

Gates Top NFL Team From Week 11 (2024)

Week 11 in the NFL brought more chaos, with at least five games on Sunday being decided by a single score. Notably, the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts won their games by just one point. As a result of their performance, the Buffalo Bills have earned the title of our NFL Team of the Week for the second time this season, having previously received this honor in Week 8.
