For the past couple of years, the Yankees have been searching for a World Series title, but somehow never prevail. In the 2021 season, they fell short and were eliminated by the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card game. While it was disappointing, the Bronx Bombers performed fairly well throughout the season. Their pitching was electric and their offense pulled through in big moments. Whether it was a Gerrit Cole strikeout or an Aaron Judge home run, the stadium was always rocking.
On the other hand, it was pretty disappointing that even with the signing of Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo, they still couldn’t make it past the first round. Many thought that after those two stars were reeled in, nobody would be able to stop New York. As the offseason creeps closer, the Yankees will have plenty of time to rethink how they want to add to their All-Star roster.

Offseason Strategy
The Yankees have many things to accomplish coming into this year’s offseason. Whether it’s giving Aaron Judge a big contract or signing a free agent. They are in desperate need of a shortstop and intend to sign one this offseason. The Yankees are also searching for coaching staff as they recently fired a few members. Luckily, the manager slot will not be a problem for New York, as they resigned Aaron Boone to a three-year contract. Nobody knows what Brian Cashman has up his sleeve, but it seems as the Yankees will acquire one of the big stars.
Keys to the Offseason
Sign an Infielder
New York struggled immensely at the shortstop position in 2021. They went from, DJ LeMahieu to Gio Urshela and Andrew Velazquez. As Gleyber Torres struggled at shortstop, they converted him to a second baseman and relied on other fielders. Due to injuries, Velazquez stepped up but it doesn’t seem that he will be the man for the job. There are many great shortstops in this year’s free agency and hopefully, the Yankees will end up with one of them.
Add Starting Pitcher
Although the starting rotation was pretty solid this season, they still need pitchers who they can rely on. Many pitchers including Luis Gil, Nestor Cortes Jr., and Jordan Montgomery all had breakout years. Although, it seems that the Yankees want a number two starter to backup Cole. Robbie Ray, Kevin Gausman, and Frankie Montas are all great options for New York to turn to. Hopefully, they will pursue a starting pitcher to add to their rotation.
Offseason Targets
Carlos Correa, 27, Shortstop
Correa is looking for a big contract to sign in the offseason. The Yankees would be the perfect fit for the young shortstop. As previously stated, the Yanks have struggled to find the perfect shortstop and Correa could be the match. The youngster has a great glove, bat and can play many positions. If they can sign Correa, it would be a minimum of 300 million dollars most likely.
Corey Seager, 27, Shortstop
Seager is another great option for the Yankees to turn to at the shortstop position. Unlike Correa, it seems that Seager will get a smaller deal for one or two years. If the Yankees pursue the youngster, they will be battling with the Dodgers to acquire 27-year-old. Seager is a great fielder and has a ton of pop in his bat which can assist the Yankees starting lineup.
Frankie Montas, 28, Starting Pitcher
The Yankees starting rotation performed quite well in the 2021 season, yet there is always room for improvement. Montas would be a great fit for the Yankees rotation. While Cortes Jr. and Montgomery filled the back end of the rotation, Montas could assist in a big way. He racks up strikeouts and can go six or seven strong innings. Although Montas is not a free agent, the Yankees can maybe trade a few prospects for the 28-year-old.
