Friday’s popular strategy is likely going to lean towards loading up on bats, the L.A. Dodgers, the league’s best offense, is at Coors. The Astros will look to get out of a funk against lefty Tommy Milone and a terrible Mariners bullpen and the Washington Nationals will look to go deep off of starter Daniel Norris who is very prone to giving up the long ball. Let’s break down some picks and go Around the Horn!
PITCHER
Yonny Chirinos TB $8,400
If we want to fit high priced bats in our lineups tonight we will have to scale down at pitcher. This, of course, comes with some risk. The Texas Rangers are no slouch but they are prone to striking out and are slightly weaker on the road. Chirinos is having a solid season and if he keeps the ball in the yard he offers a nice base to go along with the higher priced bats. The Rangers strikeout at the fourth highest rate this season at 25.4% and on the road the rate increases to 28%. Again it will be imperative that Chirinos keeps the ball down as the Rangers rank seventh in wOBA at .331.
INFIELD
Jose Altuve 2B HOU $3,900
The Astros have been getting knocked around these days losing nine of their last eleven games with the latest drubbings occurring on home turf to the Pittsburgh Pirates of all teams with the total score totaling 24 to just two Astros runs in two games. The Stros have George Springer back, so a return to form is in order. They will be matched up against southpaw Tommy Milone and the rest of the brutal Mariners pitchers(sixth worst ERA for relief pitching, 5.08). Altuve is riding a modest seven-game hit streak which includes three multi-hit games. Altuve has hit lefties very well this season, in 15 games he is hitting .385 with 5 HRs and a 1,275 OPS.
Justin Turner 3B LAD $5,000
It’s darn near impossible to ignore Dodger bats at Coors tonight. The whole roster is in play (Sorry Antonio Senzatela). This season the Dodgers rank first in OPS(1.098), first in average(.350) and first in ISO (.311) amongst visiting teams at Coors Field. As for Turner, he projects as a “safe” play, 185 career at-bats at Coors, .363, .970 OPS, .413 wOBA.
OUTFIELD
Jake Marisnick HOU $3,800
Be sure to check that Marisnick gets the start. Seems probable with lefty Tommy Milone toeing the rubber. Marisnick fares very well against left-handed pitching this season. He is 18-for-51, good for a .353 average, 7 doubles, 3 HR and a 1.088 OPS.
Alex Verdugo LAD $4,900
As stated earlier the Dodgers complete roster is in play, especially left-handed hitters. Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela is getting destroyed by lefties, in 32 innings of work he has surrendered six homers a .336 average and a .402 wOBA. Alex Verdugo has mashed the Rockies this season, he is 10-for-24 with a 1.500 OPS, 4 HRs and has averaged 15.2 DKpts per game.
