MLB DFS: Yankees-Orioles Showdown

We are now almost a week into the young 2021 Major League Baseball season. While full season fantasy is a long run at trying to cash some money, we can try to win money daily in DFS. Today’s DFS features a DraftKings showdown of the New York Yankees versus the Baltimore Orioles. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. EST at Yankee Stadium.

All prices are via DraftKings.

Captain Options

Aaron Judge ($16,200)

Judge is the most expensive captain, but he is worth the price for how he has performed early on in the season. So far he is 8-for-22 with two homers and is straight mashing the ball. As small of a sample as it is, he has a .412 xBA, .727 xSLG, and .488 xwOBA. Judge is only 2-for-10 against today’s pitcher John Means, but he has also driven in four runs. The O’s bullpen is shaky as well, so if Means struggles Judge and the Yankee lineup can mash.

Trey Mancini ($13,500)

Returning this season after beating cancer, Mancini is off to a somewhat slow start – 4-for-20 – in 2021. But the Yankees are a team he has played well against. He has a career slash line of .271/.323/.475 at Yankee Stadium with 13 RBI. He also has six homers there which are the most he has at any road ballpark. Facing Jameson Taillon, who makes his first regular-season start in two years, will bode well for Mancini. Taillon could be rusty and Mancini hits righties well. In 2019, he hit .297, had a 133 wRC+, and smashed 23 bombs against right-handers.

Value Utility Options

Jay Bruce ($5,200)

Bruce is only three-for-15 early on, but he mashed his first Yankee homer on Tuesday. Facing the same-handed Means could be a challenge, but he still had six homers in 71 at-bats against southpaws in 2019. The Yankees lineup got rolling last night and should keep it going. Bruce will get plenty of chances to mash again.

Maikel Franco ($7,600)

The former Phillie and Royal went 2-for-4 last night, one of the hits coming off Gerrit Cole. On the season, Franco is 5-for-20 with two doubles and four RBI. His double in the ninth last night was the fifth-hardest hit ball of the game at 110.1 MPH. His hit off Cole was no slouch either at 94.5 MPH. Franco sees righties well and is looking confident in his new threads. A breakout season is not out of the question and he should keep it rolling tonight.
