Let’s start this week off with a bang. None of the excess fat and all of the substance. Let’s get right into the top picks and stacks for tonight’s main slate of games.
Pitching
Sonny Gray ($11,200 on DK and $11,300 on FD)
There isn’t much to be said about Gray and his outlook tonight. He’s in a great spot against the Marlins and he’s been as solid as they come this season. Over his last four starts, Gray has logged 24 innings, while allowing only 11 hits, 1 ER, and striking out 34 batters. I don’t expect things to implode tonight against the team that’s hit the fewest home runs in the league.
Dustin May ($8,500 on DK and $6,200 on FD)
Dustin May is the best value on Fanduel and still a good play on the other sites. The Padres lost plenty of pop when Fernando Tatis Jr. went down to injury, and even before that when they traded Franmil Reyes. May had a rough relief appearance in Atlanta, but he’s had a couple of nice starts, posting 21 DK points. The Padres have the highest strikeout rate (29%) since the beginning of August against right-handed pitching.

Hitting
1B Paul Goldschmidt ($4,500 on DK and $3,700 on FD)
Remember when people were worried Goldy was having a down year? Come on people, this is what Goldschmidt does. He starts the season off relatively slow and then winds up hitting to the back of his baseball card. Since July 1st, Goldy is in the top-10 in both HRs and RBIs, with 15 and 40 respectively. He also has a four-game hitting streak, with multi-hits in three of his last four. Goldy also has great numbers versus lefty Gio Gonzalez, 10-20 (.500) lifetime against him.
2B/SS Gleyber Torres ($5,100 on DK and $4,200 on FD)
Torres had a seven-game hit streak followed by a five-game hit streak which was snapped last night. He did, however, draw a walk to keep his on-base streak going strong at 14 games. Torres hits both lefties and righties well. Lefty Tommy Milone will be the long reliever, following Matt Wisler. Milone strikes out righties at a far less rate (19.8%) compared to lefties (27.8%) and gives up close to two home runs per nine against righties.
3B Gio Urshela ($4,300 on DK and $3,300 on FD)
Urshela has had a great season throughout, but in the second half, he’s really busted out in a big way. In 149 at-bats, he’s hit 11 homers, driven in 28 runs, and hit .376. For context, he hit seven home runs in 224 at-bats in the first half of the season. Urshela is one of the cheaper Yankees, making him a nice play in cash games and tournaments.

Stacks
New York Yankees vs Matt Wisler and Tommy Milone
The Yankees were able to hit lefty Clayton Kershaw last night. What makes you think they can’t hit a sub-par lefty like Tommy Milone? Milone has a 4.84 ERA and 2.04 homer per nine rate. Fire up the Yankees.

I like both sides of this game. Gio Gonzalez is a lot worse against right-handed hitters and has rough BvP stats against these Cardinals. The combo of Dexter Fowler, Paul Goldschmidt, Yadier Molina, and Marcell Ozuna is 39-100 (.390) with 3 HRs and 17 RBIs lifetime versus Gonzalez. On the other side, Adam Wainwright isn’t the pitcher he once was. The Brewers are filled with powerful left-handed hitters. Wainwright has a 5.85 FIP against lefties and homer per nine rate close to two.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs Eric Lauer
It’s the Dodgers and they’ve crushed almost everyone this season. They are tied for the second-most home runs in MLB against left-handed pitchers with 68. With DFS, that’s exactly what we are looking for, home runs.
Seattle Mariners vs J.A. Happ
Low-owned stack against a pitcher that’s had his fair share of struggles this season. Happ has a 5.58 ERA and has a 2.16 homer per nine rate. Don’t overlook hitters like Kyle Seager, lefty/lefty match-ups are fine for him.
