Someone told me earlier, coffee tastes the best on Sunday. I have to agree. Mainly because I don’t have to work my day job on Sundays, but also because brewing a pot of coffee and dissecting a Sunday afternoon slate of baseball really gets the juices flowing. Regardless of the results, that’s a winning recipe to me. Brew up that coffee, fill up those cups, and let’s put some money in our accounts. Here are some quick-hitting options for today’s 10-game main slate on DraftKings. (FanDuel prices have also been included)
On The Bump
Huascar Ynoa ($8,500 DK, $8,400 FD)
Ynoa has surprised many people this year, basically, coming out of nowhere. With an above-average 0.89 WHIP and 2.23 ERA, Ynoa has averaged 19.1 DK points per game and has no fewer than 21.7 in each of his last four starts. The Milwaukee Brewers have scuffled against righties this year with a major league-worst .203 batting average and 299 strikeouts against them. Look for Ynoa to get the job done with his fastball and slider today.
Dylan Cease ($7,400 DK and FD)
Cease gets a slight boost because the wind is expected to be blowing in a little from centerfield. The young righty has the best strikeout rate of his career so far (31.8 percent) and will face a Kansas City Royals lineup that is hit or miss. The White Sox have held the Royals to 20 runs in eight games played against them this year for an average of 2.5 runs per game. Their Vegas implied run total for today’s game is around 3.5 runs. I’ll roll with Cease to limit the damage and rack up some strikeouts.
Other Options: Alex Wood, Lance McCullers Jr., Kyle Hendricks, Robbie Ray, Freddy Peralta
At The Dish
1B – Rowdy Tellez ($3,300 DK, $2,200 FD)
If you’re looking for a low-owned value option, look no further than Rowdy Roddy Tellez. With the Blue Jays having the highest-implied team total on the board, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will get most of the ownership. But Tellez offers a ton of power at a fraction of the cost. Chase Anderson has the worst slugging percentage (.516) allowed to left-handed batters of the pitchers on today’s slate between this season and last. I like a lot of the Jays today, but this is purely about ownership.
1B/2B – Michael Chavis ($2,300 DK, $2,000 FD)
Chavis is in a prime spot as a solid value option. Hitting atop the Red Sox lineup against Jose Quintana, Chavis is set up for success. Quintana has always been worse against righties and they have a .409 wOBA against him this season. Look for Chavis to exploit that with his career .241 ISO versus lefties, and he’ll allow you to spend up for the studs.
OF – Aaron Judge ($5,300 DK, $3,400 FD)
“The Judge” has caught fire lately, hitting safely in five straight games, with four of those being of the multi-hit variety and four of those hits being home runs. Adam Plutko relies on a lot of four-seam fastballs and cutters. The two pitches Judge has crushed this season with a .576 and .488 wOBA against them, respectively.
OF – Kris Bryant ($5,800 DK, $4,300 FD)
Injuries, even while playing, have really held KB back the last few years. That has been blatantly obvious this season, as the former MVP has returned to his 2016 form. Bryant is off to a blazing hot start during what is a contract year for him. He’s slashing .315/.409/.661 (1.071 OPS) with 10 bombs and 24 RBIs. The OPS is second to only Mike Trout, and the slugging percentage is first in the majors. Oh, and by the way, he crushes left-handed pitching. KB is first in the majors in wOBA, wRC+, ISO, and OPS against lefties. He’s facing one today in Matthew Boyd.
Other Options: Gary Sanchez, Alec Bohm, Bo Bichette, Javier Baez, Mike Trout (obviously), Mike Tauchman
Stacks
Chicago Cubs vs. Matthew Boyd
The Cubs are finding their groove at the plate. Boyd has been susceptible in the past, with a 2.24 HR/9 rate last season. With a 4.90 xFIP, his current 1.94 ERA screams regression is coming.
Boston Red Sox vs. Jose Quintana
The Red Sox are loaded, and Quintana hasn’t been great this year with a 9.00 ERA. The 1-6 hitters are all viable, but J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts are my favorites given the righty-lefty matchup.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Nathan Eovaldi
Eovaldi has yet to allow a homer this season, but the conditions are calling for it here, and I don’t think it’s sustainable. Trout, Anthony Rendon, Shohei Ohtani, and Jared Walsh are the hitters I’m picking out.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chase Anderson
I’m wondering how a pitcher with a 5.23 ERA this year and 7.22 ERA last year still has a starting job. Not to mention, he doesn’t strike many batters out (18.8 percent) and has a below-average walk rate (10.9 percent). I mentioned Tellez, but you can load up on pretty much anyone and everyone in this Jays’ lineup.
Happy Sunday, and good luck to all!
