MLB DFS September 17: Locks, Stacks, and Barrels: Masahiro Tanaka

There are six games on the 7 p.m. slate tonight on DraftKings. Interestingly, they are all division battles with most of the teams battling to grab a spot in this year’s expanded playoffs. Let’s take a look at our Locks, Stacks, and Barrels for MLB DFS September 17.

*All prices are DraftKings.

Locks

Dakota Hudson ($8,200) at Pittsburgh Pirates

Hudson started the season off on what seemed like a bit of a pitch count. He didn’t make it past the fifth inning or past 75 pitches in his first three starts. In his last four though, Hudson has given up only 13 hits, nine walks, and seven ERs in 24 innings. He has also passed the 90-pitch mark in each of his last three outings. While he isn’t generally a high-strikeout guy, he does limit the damage. Hudson is facing the Pirates who have the worst record in the Majors and are near the bottom of the National League in nearly every offensive category. There are other high-priced pitchers you could spend salary on like Shane Bieber or Aaron Nola, but for value, Hudson is a great play along with…

Masahiro Tanaka ($7,800) vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Like Hudson, Tanaka has been pitching well over his last four starts. In that span, the New York Yankees right-hander has thrown 21 1/3 innings and has given up only five ERs. He also has an impeccable 21/2 K/BB rate in that stretch. While the Blue Jays lineup does seem daunting, they haven’t been scoring runs as of late. Since getting to the Yankees for 12 runs on September 7, the Jays have scored 23 runs in their last seven games. Run support you ask? The Yankees have pummeled the Jays for 33 runs over the last two and are winners of seven in a row.

Stacks

Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies

If you are saving a few thousand bucks on your pitchers then why not go with a high-priced stack? The Dodgers are in Coors Field tonight where it will be cool and clear which means the balls should be jumping off bats. Chris Taylor ($4,800), Justin Turner ($5,000), Corey Seager ($5,300), and Cody Bellinger ($5,700) should all be on your radar tonight. Turner was just brought off the 10-day IL and Taylor has been on fire lately with a current five-game hitting streak and three homers in that time. The four Dodgers mentioned are also a combined 28-61 with 10 extra-base hits and an impressive 8/7 BB/K rate against Colorado starter Kyle Freeland.

Barrels

Paul Goldschmidt ($4,600) at Pittsburgh Pirates

Goldy has been solid again this season. Although the power numbers haven’t quite been there (six HRs in 173 PAs), he does have nine doubles as well. This is also the first time in his career he has walked more than he struck out (33/28). Goldschmidt has also eaten up left-handers in his career to the tune of a 1.022 OPS. He will be facing lefty Steven Brault tonight who has given up seven runs in his last 8 2/3 IP.

Alec Bohm ($2,800) vs. New York Mets

The big third baseman has had a very good first 33 games at the big league level. While he only has three homers in 122 PAs so far, Bohm still has an .821 OPS on the year. He has only gone hitless once in his last nine games so he has been a consistent performer. At this price, it’s hard to keep him out of your lineup. A .300 hitter with an XBH every 10 PA at less than $3,000 is an absolute steal on DraftKings.

Other Possible Plays: Tommy Edman ($4,200), Brandon Nimmo ($3,800), Jose Altuve ($3,600), Carlos Santana ($3,600)

There are only 11 days left in the MLB regular season. Stay with us for all of your MLB DFS advice through the playoffs as well. Also, be sure to watch for NFL DFS weekly.
