MLB DFS: Saturday Southpaws, Sluggers, and Stacks

MLB DFS 4/23

Happy Saturday as we get set for a full day of baseball! For this edition of MLB DFS, we will be looking at the best options for the 4-game 1:05 p.m. EST slate. There are a number of solid options to choose from, so let’s dive into some southpaws, sluggers, and stacks.

Be sure to bookmark our MLB DFS page for the latest lineup help every day.

Southpaws

Nestor Cortes vs. Cleveland Guardians ($9,800 DK, $9,100 FD)

In his last start, Cortes struck out 12 Orioles including recording an immaculate inning. Since last season, the left-hander has turned more and more into an ace. Now he faces a Guardians lineup that the Yankees’ pitching staff shut down on Friday. The only run they allowed came on a Franmil Reyes solo homer and the rest of the lineup didn’t do much. With Cortes’ deceptive delivery and strikeout stuff, he should be able to keep that up. Cleveland struck out 15 times last night and they have a 19.5 strikeout rate on the season at the plate.

Tarik Skubal vs. Colorado Rockies ($8,300 DK, $7,900 FD)

After yesterday’s game was rained out, Skubal gets the ball in game one of today’s doubleheader. The Rockies are 2-0 on the road so far this season, but they are historically worse outside of Coors Field than at home. In 2021, they hit .217 with a .643 OPS on the road compared to .280/.817 at home. On top of that, Comerica Park is a pitcher-friendly park. Skubal has gotten off to a solid start this season, striking out 10 and walking one in two starts. He bounced back with 5 2/3 innings of one-run (unearned) ball in his second outing while striking out seven. The lefty has yet to surrender a homer this season as he has relied more on his slider to force grounders and punchouts. Colorado away from home and Skubal’s improving stuff is a good bet.

Sluggers

Patrick Wisdom ($4,200 DK, $3,000 FD)

Wisdom has gotten off to a solid start this season as he has hit .317 with an .870 OPS, including 1.030 OPS in his last ten games. He went hitless on Friday but did walk once and score a run. The 2012 draft pick faces a right-hander in Zach Thompson who surrendered six runs on six hits and four walks in his last start. Wisdom mashed right-handers last season to the tune of an .820 OPS, 114 wRC+, and 20 homers. He hasn’t hit them too well this season, with just a .296 on-base percentage and .440 slugging against them. But against a struggling pitcher, Wisdom could get in his grove.

Keibert Ruiz ($4,100 DK, $2,500 FD)

The former Dodger isn’t off to the best start this season, as he is hitting .240 with a .485 OPS in 12 games. Ruiz is yet to hit a homer after hitting 24 between Triple-A and the major leagues. He hasn’t struck out much this season (12.8 percent strikeout rate) and will hardly whiff. Alex Wood is on the mound for the Giants, who has struck out 11 over 9 1/3 innings, but the peripherals show his solid start isn’t sustainable. The left-hander doesn’t have great putaway stuff and surrenders hard contact. Ruiz hasn’t walked once this season, but he makes contact and could get a hold of one for the first time this season.

Other options: Austin Meadows ($3,900 DK, $2,900 FD), Kris Bryant ($4,900 DK, $3,800 FD), Miguel Cabrera ($3,500 DK, $2,600 FD)
