MLB DFS: Players to Target, Stacks, and Home Run Calls for 7/2/19

Joey Ricotta | July 2nd, 2019

Another fully loaded Tuesday, jam-packed with every team in action tonight. As many baseball fans, friends, and family of Tyler Skaggs mourn his passing, the Angels will have their first game since the terrible tragedy. That will be must-see baseball as I will be looking forward to seeing them honor him in some fashion tonight. With that said, there are a lot of different directions we can go as far as lineup constructions. Let’s dive in and look at some players to target for DFS.

Locks

P Charlie Morton ($10,600 on DK and $10,800 on FD)

Morton has been solid this season, allowing only 3% of barrels per plate appearance which is 20th among all pitchers with at least 100 batted ball events and eighth among pitchers with 200 batted ball events. The Baltimore Orioles strikeout 22.9% and have the fifth-worst wOBA in the majors against righties at .299. Morton has the 12th best strikeout rate (29.9%) among pitchers with at least 50 innings pitched. Look for him to improve upon his 8-2 record and 2.43 ERA with another solid outing tonight.

Other Targets: P Reynaldo Lopez, Patrick Corbin, Trevor Bauer, and Jack Flaherty.

Bats

3B Eugenio Suarez ($4,200 on DK and $3,100 on FD)

Suarez seems to be seeing the ball really well right now. He has multiple hits in three consecutive games, going 7-12 with 3 HRs and 7 RBI during the stretch. Chase Anderson allows a ton of hard contact and power to right-handed batters. Righties have a .389 wOBA and hit 47.6% HC against him. In comparison, lefties have only a .241 wOBA and 32.5% HC rate. Dating back to the beginning of last season, Suarez ranks 27th in all of baseball with a 47.6% HC rate vs righties. So, 47.6% for Anderson and 47.6% for Suarez. The likelihood of Suarez hitting the ball hard tonight is pretty good. He’s criminally low priced on Fanduel. I’ll definitely be firing him up over there.

SS Francisco Lindor ($4,600 on DK and $4,000 on FD)

After going a perfect 3-3 vs Jakob Junis last Wednesday, Lindor is now 10-19 (.526) with 3 HRs, 9 RBI, and 6 XBH lifetime vs the right-hander. Junis also really struggles against left-handed hitters. They are hitting .309 with a .376 wOBA and 9 HRs against him.

OF Charlie Blackmon ($5,900 on DK and $4,500 on FD)

We’re not getting any discounts on Blackmon at this point of the season. Blackmon was just named to his third straight All-Star game and fourth for his career, after an insane first half of the 2019 season. Chuck Nazty is slashing .337/.383/.653 with 20 HRs and 56 RBI. Not to mention, the nasty man that they call Chuck, has been downright nasty at home, slashing .462/.514/.992 with 16 bombs and 36 driven in. He has hits in four straight games, homers in back-to-back, and multi-hits in three out of the four. Not a good time for right-hander Jose Urquidy to make his major league debut. Pay the price for Chuck.

Other Targets: Matt Beaty, Daniel Murphy, Jose Ramirez, Jose Altuve, Michael Brantley, Tony Wolters, and Justin Upton.

Bvp

Francisco Lindor vs Jakob Junis

See above.

Jose Abreu vs Matthew Boyd

12-24 (.500) with 2 HRs and 4 RBI.

Stacks

HOU @ COL

The game will be held at Coors Field and the Vegas Over/Under is set at 13 total runs. That is by far the highest total on the slate. We really don’t need to say much more but if I’m leaning one side or the other, I prefer the Rockies’ hitters, going up against Jose Urquidy, a rookie making his MLB debut. He’s been very solid in the minors, but this isn’t an ideal situation or location to make your debut. Jitters mixed with hitters, juiced balls, and thin air? Give me the bats.

Los Angeles Angels vs Mike Minor

I just have this funny feeling the Angels are going to rise to the occasion after the incredibly painful loss of Tyler Skaggs. It’s hot in Texas and the ball has been known to fly when that is the case at Globe Life Park. Mike Trout, Justin Upton, just to name a few of the guys I think could pop one tonight.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Taylor Clarke

Clarke has been brutal in his nine appearances and 38.1 innings of work. Hitters from both sides of the dish are teeing off on him as he holds a 6.10 ERA, 6.05 FIP, and 2.11 HR/9 rate. The Dodgers are second in the majors in wRC+ (116) and wOBA (.347) vs righties. Out of pitchers with at least 100 batted ball events, Clarke allows the fourth worst barrels per plate appearance percentage (9.8%). Lock and load against Clarke.

Cincinnati Reds vs Chase Anderson

In 26.1 IP, Chase Anderson has allowed 2.05 HR/9 vs right-handed hitters and they are batting .308 against him. The Reds are averaging 1.55 home runs per game at home which is the eighth best rate at home in the Majors. We know how Great American Ballpark can play smaller than other parks. Anderson already being susceptible to power at times might not bode well for him.
