MLB DFS: Pitchers, Hitters, and Stacks for April 18, 2022

MLB DFS: Pitchers, Hitters, and Stacks

It’s making money Monday. Hopefully, everyone had a fantastic Easter Sunday. Now, it’s time to get back to business and watch our Daily Fantasy screens turn green. Tonight, the main slate starts at 7:05 PM EDT. However, there are some games with weather concerns, so I’m focusing on a select few games and targeting players from those. Let’s dive in and pinpoint some quality options.

Pitchers

Sean Manaea ($9,100 DK, $9,700 FD)

Manaea is on cruise control to start his journey in a new uniform. In his first start of the season and first with his new team, the San Diego Padres, Manaea pitched seven no-hit innings with seven strikeouts and only one walk. His last time out, he tossed six innings and allowed two earned with six strikeouts. Manaea gets to face the 2-8 Cincinnati Reds tonight.

The Reds are on a six-game losing streak and have struggled vs. left-handed pitching dating back to last season. Last year, they had the worst batting average in the majors vs. lefties. They’ve already started poorly this year, with the fourth-worst wOBA and wRC+ against southpaws. I think Manaea will continue his hot start to the season.

Frankie Montas ($7,300 DK, $9,900 FD)

In his first start against the Philadelphia Phillies, Montas had a tough outing, allowing five earned through five innings. However, he bounced back nicely his last time out, pitching into the seventh inning and earning a victory with only one earned run allowed and six strikeouts vs. the Tampa Bay Rays.

Montas gets a solid matchup tonight against the Baltimore Orioles, who are striking out at the second-highest rate and have hit the fewest home runs of any team. Also, they will trot out many right-handed hitters, which should favor Montas.

Hitters

1B/3B – Johan Camargo ($2,600 DK, $2,500 FD)

I bet you weren’t expecting to see this name. Even with Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott, Camargo seems to be getting regular playing time for the Phillies. He’s not crushing the ball, sitting with a .269 average and .321 OBP, but he’s a cheap value bat at Coors Field and will get us exposure to the Phillies’ offense. Make sure he’s in the lineup, but you can do worse than punting first or third base and plugging in Camargo.

2B – Kolten Wong ($3,900 DK, $2,600 FD)

Wong has never faced right-handed pitcher Zach Thompson. The Brewers get the luxury of playing their home games in a dome (retractable roof), so it’s one of the few decent hitting conditions tonight, especially because the ballpark in Milwaukee is conducive for offensive production.

So far in his career, Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Zach Thompson has been better against righties than lefties. He has a 1.46 WHIP, .255 batting average against, and 5.18 xFIP against lefties compared to a 1.03 WHIP, .209 BAA, and 4.14 xFIP vs. righties.

3B – Manny Machado ($4,700 DK, $4,100 FD)

Machado hits just about everyone well, but his numbers against left-handers are better than righties. With a career 127 wRC+ and .361 wOBA vs. lefties, Machado could be in a prime spot tonight against the youngster Nick Lodolo

Lodolo is the Reds’ second-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. He will be making the second start of his career tonight after getting knocked around a bit in his first against the Cleveland Guardians. Lodolo allowed seven hits, two homers, and five earned runs in four innings of work. Getting Machado under $5,000 is a reasonable price given Lodolo’s lack of MLB experience.

OF – Kyle Schwarber ($5,400 DK, $3,500 FD)

Schwarber’s gotten off to a slow start, hitting only .139 to start the year. However, he’s coming off a two-hit game where he hit a homer. Now, the Phillies will take on Chad Kuhl at Coors Field. Everyone seems to hit better at Coors, and Schwarber is no different. In eight career games there, he’s hit three homers with 11 RBIs.

Kuhl has only pitched two games at Coors so far in his career, but he has a 6.10 ERA. He managed to squeak by with only one run allowed in his first outing against the Texas Rangers. Still, he walked four batters in that game. If his command is off even a little, I expect The Great Schwarbino and the Phillies to make him pay. Walks will kill you at Coors.

Other Options: Rowdy Tellez, Wil Myers, Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos

Stacks

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Chad Kuhl

San Diego Padres vs Nick Lodolo

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Zach Thompson

Contrarian Stack: Colorado Rockies vs. Aaron Nola
