MLB DFS Picks: The Best Day of the Week

The best day of the week in my opinion. Sunday is a day for relaxation, family, and football. Excuse me, baseball. Because baseball is the greatest sport ever created. Let’s take a look at some options for DFS today, the best day of the week.

The Arms

Cole Hamels ($11,000 on DK and $9,000 on FD)

Hamels has been the Cubs stopper as of late. They are hoping he can help the Cubs avoid a sweep at home against the Mets. Hamels has pitched at least seven innings in each of his last four starts and allowed only one earned run during that span. A couple of the Mets hitters have hit him well in the past, but I’ll still roll out the rolling Hamels.

Zach Plesac ($7,700 on DK and $8,900 on FD)

Whenever the Detroit Tigers are on the main slate, I’ll be looking in their direction. Zach Plesac, the nephew of former Major League pitcher and current MLB Network analyst Dan Plesac, has been throwing the ball well since making his arrival. He’s 2-2 with a 2.56 ERA and has a 21.7% strikeout rate. As many know by now, the Tigers strikeout at an outrageous clip 26.5%.

Other Targets: Jacob deGrom, Justin Verlander, and Rick Porcello.

The Bats

2B Jose Altuve ($3,900 on DK and $3,800 on FD)

The price still hasn’t caught up to Altuve’s return to action. J.A. Happ is a decent pitcher and has had some success vs Altuve (3-17, .176). But I’ll take my shot with Altuve, at least in tournaments. He has pounded left-handed pitching this season, hitting .361 with a .473 wOBA against them.

3B/SS Manny Machado ($4,700 on DK and $3,600 on FD)

Take notice. Machado is quietly starting to go on a tear. He is currently riding a ten-game hit streak, during which he has gone 20-43 (.465) with six home runs and 12 runs batted in. Machado has consistently hit double-digit DraftKings points, getting at least ten points in each of his last nine games, and seven of those games have been multi-hit performances. He draws a soft match-up against Steven Brault of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Brault has a 5.39 FIP and .367 wOBA against right-handed batters.

OF Christian Yelich ($5,800 on DK and $4,900 on FD)

Spoiler alert, Christian Yelich is good at hitting the baseball. He’s the highest priced hitter on Draftkings, but for good reason. He’s coming off an 18-game hitting streak where he slashed .453/.500/.907 with eight bombs and seven steals. Yelich will be facing Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani and has had success against him in the past. He’s gone 7-15 (.467) with two homers and four extra-base hits vs DeSclafani.

Other Targets: Franmil Reyes, Freddie Freeman, Ronald Acuna Jr., and Juan Lagares.

The Stacks

San Diego Padres vs Steven Brault

Despite pitching better recently, Brault has an xFIP of 4.59 in the month of June and has an 89.4% LOB% which is well above league average. The Padres will be running out a lot of right-handed bats and that’s something Brault especially struggles with. Righties are hitting .292 against him for the season.

Atlanta Braves vs Austin Voth

Fortunately and unfortunately for him, Voth has been recalled from the Minors to start this game against the Braves. In limited action last season, Voth had a terrible 6.57 ERA and 2.19 HR/9 rate. The Braves have been scorching hot for a while now. Voth could be in serious trouble early on in this one.
