MLB DFS: Oppo Taco Tuesday 🌮 Picks for August 6, 2019

Joey Ricotta  \ Aug 6th, 2019

If you played Nicholas Castellanos last night, you were able to enjoy a solid outburst, including an opposite-field first-inning home run. Oppo Tacos are very much welcomed, especially on Tuesdays. Don’t be fooled, as long as a home run still equals fantasy points, we will take home runs of any variety. Pull shots, moonshots, wall scrapers, and of course opposite-field blasts otherwise known as oppo tacos.

Pitchers

Zack Wheeler ($10,600 on DK and $10,700 on FD)

Wheeler had arguably his best outing of the year his last trip to the mound against the White Sox. Wheeler went seven strong shutout innings, walked zero, struck out seven, and allowed only four hits. The match-up is excellent for Wheeler this time around, he’ll be pitching at home against the Miami Marlins. On May 10th, Wheeler faced the Marlins at home and went seven innings, allowed only two runs, and struck out eleven. We can expect a similar type of outing tonight.

Dinelson Lamet ($8,500 on DK and $6,500 on FD)

Lamet has been consistently racking up points in the mid-teens each time out. Lamet’s ERA is higher than we would like it to be, sitting at 5.09, but his 4.05 xFIP suggests that he is pitching better than what is showing. From a fantasy standpoint, Lamet’s strikeout numbers are what saves him when he gives up runs. His 29.1% strikeout rate is elite and he’s going up against the Seattle Mariners, a team that can be put away often. The Mariners are tied with the Milwaukee Brewers for the sixth-highest strikeout percentage (25.1%) versus right-handed pitchers. Since the Edwin Encarnacion trade to the Yankees on June 16th, Seattle is striking out 26%.

Other Targets: Zack Greinke, Anibal Sanchez, Zach Plesac, Ryan Yarbrough.

Infield

1B Miguel Cabrera ($3,400 on DK and $3,000 on FD)

Remember the days when Miguel Cabrera was match-up proof? Cabrera is one of those guys that at this stage of his career, you just have to play the match-ups correctly. That is if you are in search of some home run upside. Going back to the theme of today’s article, Cabrera might very well hit an oppo taco today. Depending on where you choose to eat, tacos are cheaper on Tuesdays. Cheaper is better when it pertains to daily fantasy as well. At this price tag, if Cabrera pops one out, you will be sitting very pretty. Hector Santiago has been recalled to face the Tigers in Detroit for game two of a double-dip. The move is one out of necessity for the White Sox and not because he was pitching well in the minors. In 37 IP with the Triple-A squad, Santiago has a 5.84 ERA. Over the course of his career, Santiago has a 1.52 HR/9 rate versus righties. Fire up Cabrera for a cheap first base option.

3B Eugenio Suarez ($4,600 on DK and $3,600 on FD)

Eugenio goose egged last night, but I’m going right back to him tonight. He crushes lefties and gets a solid match-up against Jose Suarez, setting up the ultimate battle of Suarez versus Suarez. The Venezuelans make for a good in-game story, and I think Eugenio has the edge. He’s still in search of home run number 30 for the season, and he’s hitting .333 with four homers against lefties at home.

Other Targets: John Hicks, Yan Gomes, Brian Dozier, Max Muncy, Jose Iglesias

Outfield

OF Starling Marte ($5,300 on DK and $3,900 on FD)

Marte will be tough to pay up for in cash games at his price, but with this big of a sample size against Chase Anderson, he makes for a good pivot or one-off play in tournaments. Marte is 15-for-34 (.441 avg.) with two homers and six extra-base hits lifetime versus Anderson.

OF Aristides Aquino ($3,700 on DK and $2,300 on FD)

Aquino is almost the bare minimum price on Fanduel and very affordable everywhere else. We know he can hit lefties, his first big league blast was against one. Jose Suarez has a 5.66 ERA and has really struggled versus righties. They are hitting .321 with a .407 wOBA, and eight of his eleven home runs allowed have been to right-handed batters. In 78 games played at Triple-A this season, Aquino hit 28 bombs. He definitely has the ability to go deep tonight.

Other Targets: Yasiel Puig, Franmil Reyes, Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Khris Davis

Double Decker Taco Stacks

Cincinnati Reds vs Jose Suarez

Top three: Eugenio Suarez, Aristides Aquino, and Jose Iglesias.

Cleveland Indians vs Ariel Jurado

Top three: Yasiel Puig, Franmil Reyes, and Jose Ramirez.
