MLB DFS October 9: Yankees-Rays ALDS Game 5 Showdown

MLB DFS October 9 Gerrit Cole

Well, well, well. Here we are with Game 5 of the ALDS. With their backs against the wall last night, the Yankees forced the decisive Game 5 versus the Rays with a 5-1 win. This is for all the marbles and all hands will be on deck. It is the only game on the slate as all the other series have been wrapped up. With that in mind, we will give some players to roll with for the DraftKings DFS showdown. Let’s do this.

Captain

Gerrit Cole

As always, the Captain for a showdown is 1.5 times his normal price but also earns 1.5 times his price. It is fairly easy to decide who to go with here. Cole gets the ball for the Yankees on three days rest and he will have ice in veins for a do-or-die game. In Game 1 on Monday, he struck out eight over six innings. He surrendered three runs and walked two, and seemed to pitch angrier and nastier after giving up two homers. Look for him to pitch his best game of the season and put the Yankees in a great position to advance to the ALCS to face the Astros.

Utility

Giancarlo Stanton

Stanton has continued to hit this postseason. Yesterday was the first game this postseason that he did not hit a home run, but he still picked up a double in four at-bats. Before that, he had hit six homers in the Yankees’ first five games. Two of the home runs he hit came in Game 2 against tonight’s Rays’ starter, Tyler Glasnow. He has been the pulse of the Yankees’ lineup and will look to continue to come up big in the win-or-go-home Game 5. He could be somewhat of a chalky (high ownership) pick, but if he gets a hold of another one it will pay off for you.

Ji-Man Choi

If you haven’t been paying attention, the one guy who really has Cole’s number is Choi. He has gone 10-for-19 (.526) with four dongs, five walks, and 10 RBIs against Cole in his career. One of the home runs came in Game 1 while two others came in the regular season. If I was going to go with a home run call, it would between these two guys, Stanton or Choi.

Randy Arozarena

The Yankees were finally able to neutralize Arozarena last night, as he was held hitless in four at-bats. But it would be silly to assume he would go hitless again after three straight multi-hit games against the Yankees and four overall. He hit the other homer off Cole in Game 1 and went 3-for-3 off him and 3-for-4 overall. Maybe he won’t have as productive a day as that, but expect him to get on base a couple of times.
