MLB DFS – Make That Money Monday, Targets and Stacks for 9/9/19

There are two NFL games on tonight after the big opening Sunday yesterday. There was baseball on yesterday and a slate of games that not many paid attention to. Tonight, however, there are eight games on the main slate on DraftKings. The perfect sized slate following a crazy, yet enjoyable Sunday of football. Just enough games to be able to differentiate your lineups from your opponent’s. Also, not too many games which allow us to fully dive into each game. Let’s take a look at what we have on tap for tonight.

Pitching Options

Jordan Lyles ($8,200 on DK and $8,400 on FD)

Through his first eight starts of the year, Lyles had a 4-1 record with a 1.97 ERA. Then, Lyles ran into some struggles against tough opponents that he had to face more than once in a short span of time. Without going into too much detail about how much he struggled, just know that he pushed his ERA up to 5.36 prior to being traded. Since being traded to the Brewers on July 29th, Lyles has made seven starts, going 5-1 with a 2.56 ERA across 38.2 innings pitched. He’s been much better against right-handed batters than lefties, with a .293/.373 RHB/LHB wOBA split. His opponent this evening, the Miami Marlins will be with only two lefties in their lineup, Neil Walker and Isan Diaz. If he can maneuver around them, he should be alright.

Trevor Williams ($6,300 on DK and $8,000 on FD)

Slowly but surely Williams has been picking it up lately. In his last three starts, Williams has gone 2-0 while tossing 19 innings and amassing a solid 2.37 ERA. Over the course of those three starts, Williams has averaged 19.8 DraftKings points per game. We’ll take that out of what he costs tonight. His Achilles heel throughout his career has been left-handed batters. The left-handed batters projected to be in the San Francisco Giants’ lineup are Mike Yastrzemski, Brandon Crawford, and Brandon Belt. Yastrzemski has never faced Williams, but Crawford and Belt are a combined 1-12 (.083) against him. I like Williams to, at the very least, not get blown up, pitching at Oracle Park.

Other Targets: Jacob deGrom and Shane Bieber.

Hitting

Trent Grisham ($3,200 on DK and $2,600 on FD)

Grisham is hitting lead-off against a mediocre pitcher with some real bruisers behind him. Grisham’s only hitting .222 for the year but has a 39.7% Hard Hit rate, 5.2 ticks above league average. The pitcher he’ll be facing tonight, Robert Dugger has had mixed results. The bad part of the mix has been his numbers versus left-handed hitters. He’s allowed a .354 wOBA to go with a 7.63 xFIP against them. For those that aren’t aware, Grisham is a lefty.

Other Targets: Mookie Betts, Kyle Schwarber, J.D. Martinez, Eric Thames

Stacks

Milwaukee Brewers vs Robert Dugger

Dugger has below average strikeout stuff (15.2% K rate this season), mixed with an above-average Hard Hit rate against (42.9%). That’s not an ideal combination. The Milwaukee Brewers are fighting for a playoff spot, sitting two games back of a wild card spot. Putting together some lineups today, I found it very easy to fit some of them in given their cheap salaries. Trent Grisham, Travis Shaw, Eric Thames, and of course Christian Yelich and Yasmani Grandal.

Cleveland Indians vs Patrick Sandoval

Another offense that seems too cheap is the Cleveland Indians. They have a solid match-up against Patrick Sandoval who has a 4.91 ERA. Angel Stadium of Anaheim has somewhat surprisingly, been host to quite a few home runs this season. Sandoval has yet to give up a bomb at home. I don’t expect that to last. Jump on before the others do, I think he gives up a couple tonight. Yasiel Puig, Francisco Lindor, and Franmil Reyes are among my favorites to use in a stack.
