Our MLB DFS picks of late have been rolling, so let’s see if there is continued success on a small six-pack slate for Monday night. There are some intriguing matchups tonight, although the number of available studs to fill in the holes is not terrific. That means that the low to mid-range upside plays are all the more important.
Here we take a look at some affordable pieces to get into your lineups before filling in the rest with bangers, some of which I’ve listed at the end.

Stacks
As many lineups as I have tinkered with for tonight, I keep coming back to an overwhelming theme: Every lineup has multiple Chicago White Sox or Detroit Tigers players. That can only mean one thing. If you are stacking, those are two of the squads you should look at.
A great many DFS players tonight will be rostering White Sox stacks as the South Siders take on Kwang Hyun-Kim. Kim is having a decent season, though he’s done it with a bit of smoke and mirrors.
The most interesting stack matchup for me is the Tigers facing Sam Hentges and the Cleveland Indians. Hentges just gave up six runs in 1.2 innings against the Angels his last time out, and even a subpar Detroit lineup should get to him.
Others: Colorado Rockies stack versus the New York Mets’ David Peterson
On the Mound
Spencer Turnbull – vs. Cleveland ($7,900)
It seems common enough over the years that the guy that just hurled a no-no comes out and lays an egg in the following start. Well, those guys were not often throwing against this putrid Indians lineup. Turnbull hasn’t exactly been ripping up great teams along the way, but a 2.88 ERA along with a very nice 0.96 WHIP should do the trick tonight.
He has allowed a staggering max exit velocity of 116.2 MPH, but Cleveland is also going to spot him a pitchers’ count often as they are near the top of the league in first-pitch strikes. The strikeout rate for their hitters is high, as you’d imagine, so his tune of just under nine K/9 holds up and then some. It’s an easy W, six-plus innings of 2 run ball, and he’ll likely hit that 10 K mark.
In the Field
Tomas Nido, C – vs. Colorado ($3,100)
Nido has almost entirely wrestled that starting job in New York away from James McCann. He is slashing .279/.340/.512 (small sample size) which is certainly impressive for a guy that was just supposed to be a game manager. Thanks to all the injuries on the Mets roster, Nido should hit fifth and if they can get anything going offensively, he’ll be right in the thick of it. That’s a good bargain for the price.
Jonathan Schoop, 2B – vs. Cleveland ($3,300)
As outlined above in the stacks section, the Tigers should be expected to hit tonight. Schoop will be near the top of the lineup and that is as good of a reason as any to get him in there. Here’s why: There just aren’t a lot of thrilling propositions at second base this evening. Nick Madrigal is another option, but not all the more endearing than Schoop. If a lineup should hit, might as well lean towards someone in it.
Josh Fuentes, 3B – at New York Mets ($3,300)
The Colorado third baseman has been a bit of a mixed bag this season, but when he’s locked-in, he can be dangerous. Mets starter Peterson just dropped three earned runs in 4.2 IP his last time out and now holds a 3-3 record with a 4.97 ERA. What’s not to like about the Rockies in this game? They are a different team outside of Coors, but New York is a different team than they were in April.
Andrew Vaughn, OF – vs. St. Louis ($2,200)
Steal city. That is a low price no matter who the opposing pitcher is, and Cardinals starter Hyun-Kim is not as good as his 2.73 ERA would suggest. He is barely escaping jams and started the season with a ridiculously low BABIP that could not last. Vaughn was quite the opposite. It’s been a rocky road thus far but he’s coming around he is hitting the ball hard, has tallied three homers and raised (yes, raised) his OPS to .696. None of that is flattering, but he’ll likely be a DFS mainstay by the end of the season, so get him at this price point now. I’ll take him as my home run call of the night.
Stud Finder: Lance Lynn (SP – CHW), Jose Abreu (1B – CHW), Trevor Story (SS – COL), Robbie Grossman (OF – DET), Ramon Laureano (OF – OAK)
If you do multiple lineups, mix and match and be sure to get some Tigers and Rockies into those lineups. Tigers are going to be great for GPP as they’ll be seldom used by your opponents.
