MLB DFS Giant Snakes and Horses

Welcome to the Monday West Coast edition of MLB DFS. Tonight, we have a five-game slate starting at 9:38 pm EDT on DraftKings. For today’s article, there are five bargain players who I really like tonight with a pitcher under $7,500 and four hitters under $4,000. As we know, hitting on a couple of low-salary guys is gold in DFS. It also allows you to stack the rest of your lineup with studs. Let’s get to it.

Be sure to check us out daily for our DFS content.

On the Mound

Humberto Castellanos vs. Miami Marlins ($7,100)

I am actually a little shocked that Castellanos is lower than his opponent Elieser Hernandez ($8,500). The Marlins right-hander got beat up last week against these Diamondbacks and Arizona’s righty shut out Miami into the sixth inning. Castellanos is stretched out as well having thrown 88 pitches last time out. He began the season in the bullpen, and one bad outing against the St. Louis Cardinals blew up his ERA to 4.12. However, his FIP is 3.07 and he keeps the hard-hit balls to a minimum.

On the Dirt

Wilmer Flores, 1B ($3,900)

When Flores faces a left-handed starter, get him in your lineup. His career OPS against lefties is nearly 100 points higher than vs. right-handers (.820-.727). Flores also has an extra-base hit once every 9.57 plate appearances against southpaws. He just blasted a grand slam off of lefty Steven Matz a couple of days ago and has been solid all year, slashing .271/.345/.427. If you are also into year-long fantasy baseball, as I am, Flores was featured in our latest “Walking the Waiver Wire” article which drops every Sunday evening.

Jean Segura, 2B ($3,600)

Since the calendar turned to May, Segura has been on fire going 10-for-22 with a home run and a couple of RBIs. He faces Chris Flexen who has been a bit lucky this year. His 3,10 ERA doesn’t really fit when he has allowed an average exit velocity over the league average and also has a .247 BABIP against. The Phillies will put the bat on the ball against the Seattle righty and regression could hit him hard.

Alec Bohm, 3B ($3,400)

Here is another horse you should have in the race. While it isn’t set in stone, Bohm was recently moved to the number two spot in the order. Despite the Sophomore Slump that hurt him last year, the big right-handed hitter has flourished in 2022. The price is great for a guy as talented as Bohm who is batting .312 and hits toward the top of the Phillies lineup.

On the Grass

Daulton Varsho ($3,800)

Varsho has shown off some power this season, tied with Christian Walker for the team lead with six homers. Although Alek Thomas was called up and will be playing centerfield for the near future, Carson Kelly just hit the IL. That gives Varsho access to regular playing time behind the plate. All six of his bombs have come off of right-handers, and he faces one tonight. You can also slot him in at catcher if you have the money to spend on a good outfielder.

Good Luck with all of your DFS lineups.
