MLB DFS DraftKings Around the Horn June 6th, 2019

Joel Dorcas |June 6th, 2019

Tonight we get a more simplified schedule as there will be eight-afternoon games compared to just five-night games. This might make matters easier for some as the pool of players will be trimmed down considerably. Of the six games, we will find that each game has pieces we can use to build optimal lineups. Hopefully, the Daily Fantasy season is going well for you, it can be a grind sometimes but doing some homework can turn out to be very rewarding at the end of the day. Time to circle the bases and go Around the Horn!

Pitcher

Trevor Bauer CLE $9,400

It just so happens that the two best pitchers for the night slate are featured in the same game. (Patrick Corbin and Joey Lucchesi are no slouches either). Berrios overall is having a better season than Bauer but he is of course backed by a better team this season. Not to take anything away from Berrios, and he’s a fine selection as well, but Bauer’s K upside is what differentiates it and we can’t ignore the fact that Bauer handled the Twins very well March 30th going seven innings allowing just a single hit while striking out nine in a no-decision 2-1 Tribe victory. Bauer’s last seven games have not been pretty(5.44 ERA) but the strikeouts are still there-51 in 43 innings(over his last seven outings). Perhaps his last two games are a sign of better things to come as he has given up two earned runs in each of those games.

Infield

DJ LeMahieu NYY 2B/3B $4,400

The model of consistency keeps churning out hits for the men in pinstripes. This has turned into a great acquisition by the Yankees as LeMahieu has turned himself into a key cog in a very potent lineup(despite all the injuries). LeMahieu is currently riding a nine-game hit streak while driving in nine runs. Didi Gregorius will be out until at least Friday but the Yanks would do well to find him a spot somewhere in the infield(perhaps third base). He currently has a team-high WAR of 2,0. Include as many Yankees as you can tonight as they draw Edwin Jackson who is somehow still on a major league roster, he sits at 0-3 with a laughable 13.22 ERA.

Asdrubal Cabrera TEX 3B $4,300

Just like the Yankees are in a good spot the Rangers profile well tonight at Globe Life Park where they are 20-10 on the season mostly led by their hitting. It really doesn’t matter who the Orioles put out on the mound, but they will face(6-2, 5.04 ERA) Andrew Cashner followed by the second worst bullpen in terms of ERA(5.78 as of this past Sunday). Cabrera has provided lots of offense of late for the Rangers cranking his average up .32 points in his last 13 games(15-for-53). The last time Cashner faced the Rangers was August 2nd, 2018, he got touched up mightily going for just one and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 earned runs in the loss.

Outfield

Wil Myers SD $3,800

Myers has struggled this season given his .228 average but he still has put up 10 HR’s, scored 29 runs and swiped six bags. He will definitely want to cut down on his strikeout totals as he is carrying an ugly 36.8% rate, well above his career number of 26.1%. Myers matches up well in this particular matchup making him a viable play. Versus left-handed pitching, Myers is hitting .294 with three homers in 34 at-bats. When facing righties this season he is carrying just a .213 average in 150 at-bats. Myers has also done some damage over his career versus Corbin going 10-for-27 with a 1.081 OPS with eight runs scored.

Kole Calhoun LAA $4,300

Of course, we want to spend up for Mike Trout who has destroyed Mr. “dumpster”-Fiers over his career to the tune of ..381/.500/.857. But if you can’t find room in the budget why not take a flyer on Kole Calhoun. Calhoun had a miserable 2018 but has shown signs of improvement this year. When matched up against righties Calhoun is much more consistent hitting .77 points higher than when facing lefties in 76 more at-bats. Calhoun, although not as pronounced as Trout,  has fared well of Fiers hitting .280 with a .816 OPS in 25 at-bats.
