Joey Ricotta | July 7th, 2019

The holiday weekend is almost over. So, let’s try to end it on a high note by making some DFS cash. Here are some of my favorite cash game core plays and stacks for today’s games.

Disclaimer: The pricing included is for Draftkings.

Pitcher

Patrick Corbin ($10,900)

There are a few options at the top, but picking on the Royals with certain left-handed pitchers has worked for me this season. The Royals are striking out 23.9% vs lefties. They also have the third worst wRC+ (76) and fourth worst OPS (.674) against them. After the passing of his good friend Tyler Skaggs, Corbin turned in an inspiring effort against the Miami Marlins his last time out. He allowed one run in seven innings of work while striking out seven and walking zero. In his last three starts, he has thrown at least seven innings, given up only one run, and struck out at least seven batters in each start. I’ll roll with the hot hand and the easy to root for Corbin.

Other Targets: Trevor Bauer, James Paxton, Chase Anderson, and David Price.

Hitters

2B/3B Mike Brosseau ($2,200)

Since being called up from the Minors to replace the injured Ji-Man Choi on the active roster, Brosseau has filled in nicely. He’s gone 9-22 with one home run, five RBIs and four doubles. Although he will be facing a decently difficult pitcher in James Paxton, Brosseau is basically bare minimum salary on both DraftKings and FanDuel. It helps that Brosseau was raking in Triple-A before making his debut. In 68 games, he hit .317 with 15 bombs and a .998 OPS. The 15 bombs were two more than his previous high last year of 13, in 36 more games played.

2B Jose Altuve ($3,900)

Too cheap for Altuve, hitting second in a high powered Astros offense at home. Altuve has crushed lefties this season. He’s batting .347 vs lefties compared to only .233 vs right-handers. He also has the same amount of home runs (5) against them as he does against righties, in 110 fewer at-bats. Jose Suarez has a 5.40 ERA for the season, along with a .390 wOBA against right-handed batters.

OF J.D. Martinez ($4,700)

The Red Sox are on fire recently and Martinez will be positioned squarely in the middle of the order. We know how well he’s hit lefties over the course of his career and this match-up is incredibly favorable. Martinez is in the midst of an eight-game hit streak and his numbers on the season vs lefties are insane. In 167 few at-bats vs lefties than righties, Martinez has the same amount of home runs (9) and a .370 avg. compared to .279 vs righties.

OF Mookie Betts ($4,900)

I really think you can fit both Martinez and Betts into your lineups today. The salary savings you’ll get with Brosseau, Altuve, and Bauers, you should be able to make it work. To me, it won’t be a decision you’ll come to regret. Betts has been smashing the cover off the ball and now gets a match-up against a Minor League caliber left-handed pitcher.

Other Targets: Jake Bauers, Yuli Gurriel, Christian Vazquez, Kyle Schwarber, George Springer, Juan Soto, and Adam Eaton.

Stacks

Boston Red Sox vs Gregory Soto

Houston Astros vs Jose Suarez

Chicago Cubs vs Ivan Nova

Cleveland Indians vs Tyler Mahle
