Toeing the Slab

Keegan Thompson vs New York ($5,800)

The Cubs don’t have the most plausible rotation yet Thompson has been dominant since day one. The 27-year-old mowed down the Dodgers lineup as he fanned eight batters over 5 and 2/3. His BB/9 has been cut by nearly three compared to last season’s 5.23. His K rate has also turned up a notch and sits at a 23.4 rate. Right-handed batters hit just .248 when facing Thompson and lefties have it even worse at .205. The Mets own several lefty hitters in their lineup and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Thompson sums up some cash.

Marco Gonzales @ Texas ($6,500)

Gonzales has been rock solid throughout his 2022 campaign and is the owner of an honorable 3.24 ERA. The former first-round pick for the Cardinals (2013) has been firing on all cylinders since June. Batters hit just .195 in the month of June and his BAPIP was at a season low of .198. The 30-year-old has only made two appearances in July and allowed just four earned runs over 12 2/3 of work. Let’s see if the Rangers allow Gonzales to maintain his 10.9 fantasy points per game.

In the Batters Box

Brandon Drury, 3B ($4,500)

Not may have noticed what Drury has accomplished in his breakout season. While he did bat .274 in his brief journey with the 2021 Mets, the 29-year-old has surpassed almost all of his stats in just 77 games. His 136 wRC+ is a career-high and his raw power has revived. Slugging .627 in the month of June is something nobody expected from Drury. Additionally, the former Yankee could muscle up for a big fly as he faces a lefty (Nestor Cortes) which seems to be where he succeeds the most (.333 batting average against all lefties).

Seby Zavala, C ($3,600)

A player with Zavala’s caliber isn’t likely to find much success at the plate. Although, the 28-year-old has been a stud to compensate for the absence of their star catcher Yasmani Grandal. With a 137 wRC+ and .365 OPB, Tony La Russa should consider Zavala to take part in the daily operations of the White Sox lineup. The Texas native has been on a tear in the month of July and flaunts a .357 batting average in 28 at-bats.

Steven Kwan, OF ($3,400)

Making a case for AL Rookie of the Year, Kwan proves to be a mainstay in the Guardian’s lineup. His K rate sits at 8 percent which is second among all major leaguers (Luis Arraez). While he slugs just .362, Kwan thrives with men in scoring position and is the owner of a .321 batting average. You wouldn’t be mistaken to cash in on Kwan as he faces Elvin Rodriguez who can’t seem to fight off a .326 opponent average.
