MLB DFS 6/1 – Moneyball Plays

Devin Davis and Givanni Damico| June 1st, 2019

As the calendar turns to a new month, Gio and I are teaming up to deliver the DFS advice you need. We provide our picks and plays to help you cash in your contests.

Devin’s Pitcher:

Andrew Heaney LAA ($8,500 on DK)

After dominating through five innings in Heaney’s first start off the IL, he has a nice matchup with the Mariners tonight. At a fairly inexpensive price, Heaney should return nicely on his value. After averaging a strikeout per inning last season, Heaney should continue to rack up Ks tonight against the Mariners who strikeout at a 25.3% clip. Heaney is dominant against lefties with a 1.44 FIP last year but has struggled against right-handed hitters.

Gio’s Pitcher:

Nick Margevicius SDP ($6,900 on DK)

Margevicius started the season off very well for the Padres, but he fizzled out after a few bad starts. He just got called up from the minors in order to make tonight’s start against one of the worst hitting teams in baseball, the Miami Marlins. He has something to prove tonight.

Devin’s Bats:

1B/2B Max Muncy LAD ($4,600 on DK)

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in a nice spot tonight against an opener in Jose Alvarez. Cole Irvin who is returning to the Majors and Vince Velasquez who is fresh off the IL are slated to be available in long relief. Muncy has homered twice in the past three games and has been solid against lefties this season. I am going to ride the hot hand batting at the top of a prolific lineup.

2B/3B DJ LeMahieu NYY ($4,400 on DK)

DJ LeMahieu has consistently gotten on base this season at a clip of .386. He is riding a 12 game on-base streak at the moment and has homered the past two games. He has excelled at the leadoff spot for the Yankees this season. Rick Porcello has struggled this season and has failed to get significant strikeouts. This should allow LeMahieu to reach base multiple times once again and possibly continue his power surge.

2B/OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. TOR ($4,500 on DK)

Since being recalled to the Majors, Gurriel has been crushing and has gotten a hit in each game. A game in Coors Field against the underwhelming Jon Gray sets up for another productive day for Gurriel Jr. He lacks plate discipline so there is a low floor on this play, but the upside for a hot hand in Colorado cannot be passed on. Give me the upside play for a reasonable price for a hitter in Coors Field.

Gio’s Bats:

SS Paul DeJong STL ($4,500 on DK)

DeJong is good value today against the Cubs and Jose Quintana. He is hitting .346 against left-handed pitching today and Quintana has been very up and down throughout the last two years. There is a ton of upside here because of his price, especially since he is more than capable of hitting the ball out tonight.

3B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. TOR ($4,100 on DK)

Vladito has hit six home runs this season and plays at Coors Field tonight, where the ball is very susceptible to leaving the yard. He is facing Jon Gray who is having some trouble keeping the ball in the yard this season. You could pay $1,800 more for Nolan Arenado, or you could take Vladito who has the same upside today.

OF Franmil Reyes SDP ($4,200 on DK)

Reyes has matched his home run total from last year in 91 fewer plate appearances this season. He is facing one of the Marlins’ better pitchers today in Jose Urena, but I’m calling a big day for the Padres today. Reyes bats right in the middle of the lineup and should get plenty of opportunities with runners on base.
