The Minnesota Vikings will travel to Soldier Field in Chicago to face the Chicago Bears on Sunday at 4:25 PM EST. The Vikings lead the all-time series 60-53-2, but the Bears won the last two matchups between the teams last year, ending Minnesota’s playoff run. According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, the Vikings are slightly favored to win, 52.4 percent to 47.2 percent.
Minnesota comes into Week 4 following a win over the Oakland Raiders last week after losing to the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 and winning in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. Quarterback Kirk Cousins has received 37 out of 62 passes for 502 yards and three touchdowns, and Dalvin Cook rushed for 57 passes and 135 yards, while Adam Thielen received 11 catches for 173 yards. Danielle Hunter has three sacks this season, Anthony Harris has two interceptions on record, and kicker Dan Bailey has connected for nine out of ten extra points and three out of four field goals.
Chicago comes into the match with two wins and one loss. Mitchell Trubisky has completed 67 of 103 passes for 579 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions so far this season. David Montgomery has rushed for 37 passes and 147 yards, and Allen Robinson has 17 catches for 203 yards on the year. Khalil Mack has three sacks, while Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Kyle Fuller are both tied with two interceptions this year. Kicker Eddy Pineiro has connected on five of five extra points and five of six field goals.
In their Week 3 win, Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins had a touchdown pass and a 112 rating in. So far in four games against Chicago, he has eight touchdowns (five passing and three rushing). Cousins has a touchdown pass in 19 consecutive games, which is the longest active streak in the NFL. In seven games against NFC North teams, he has passed for 2,041 yards for 13 touchdowns.
Running back Dalvin Cook rushed for 110 yards and recorded a touchdown in Week 3, becoming just the fifth running back in NFL history with 110 or more yards and one rushing touchdown in each of the first three games of the season. Cook leads the NFL with 375 rushing yards, 488 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown and one rushing touchdown in the past four games on the road. Rookie running back Alexander Mattison recorded his first career touchdown against the Raiders last week. Wide receiver Adam Thielen had a receiving touchdown last week and he looks to continue his streak of games on the road with five-plus catches, currently at nine. Thielen has 75 or more receiving yards in his last three of four games.
Stefon Diggs has seven receiving touchdowns in seven career games versus Chicago. He aims for his third in a row on the road, and his fourth in a row versus Chicago. Defensive end Danielle Hunter had a sack last week and is one of three NFC players with at least one sack in the first three games of 2019. (Clay Matthews and Shaquill Barrett are the other two.) Safety Harrison Smith had an interception and a pass deflection last week; since 2014, he is the only defensive player with 10-plus sacks and 10-plus interceptions. Linebacker Eric Wilson led the team with eleven tackles and had his first career two-sack game in Week 3.
On the other side of the field, Chicago quarterback Mitchell Trubisky completed 25 of 31 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns with a 116.5 rating in Week 3. Trubisky is 3-1 with six touchdowns in the past four games at home versus NFC North opponents and has 20 or more completions in four out of five home games. Rookie running back David Montgomery recorded 81 scrimmage yards, 67 of them rushing and 14 receiving yards last week, and leads all NFC rookie running backs with 194 scrimmage yards. Montgomery is aiming for his third game in a row with 60 or more yards.
Wide receiver Taylor Gabriel had six catches for 75 yards and a career-high three touchdowns in Week 3, which was also his third career game with two-plus receiving touchdowns, but he’ll be inactive this week as he is dealing with a concussion. Wide receiver Allen Robinson has recorded at least five catches in three of his past five games at home.
Khalil Mack had two sacks and two forced fumbles in Week 3 and since entering the NFL in 2014 is tied for first place in forced fumbles. He also has the second-most games with two-plus sacks since 2014.
Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix led the team with nine tackles and had two interceptions, including a 27-yard pick-six, last week. Cornerback Kyle Fuller recorded an interception last week and is aiming for his third game in a row with an interception, and his fourth in a row with a pass deflection. Since 2018, Fuller leads the NFL in pass deflections and interceptions, with 25 and 9 respectively. Safety Eddie Jackson also recorded a 27-yard interception touchdown and has five pass deflections, three interceptions, and two pick-sixes in the past four games versus NFC North teams.
The Bears aim to win their third in a row in the long standing series rivalry between the two teams, as both teams go for their third win of the 2019 NFL season.
