McIntyre-Orton to Headline WWE SummerSlam

The two most dominant WWE superstars in 2020 will cross paths at SummerSlam.

And one of them shall fall with all of their momentum taking a change of course.

Entrant No. 16 made his way to the ring and eliminated six superstars in the 2020 Royal Rumble, including the WWE champion, on his way to winning one of the most exciting matches in WWE.

Entrant No. 25 came into the match soon after and eliminated just one superstar, but catapulted his feud that would last half the year and – so far – culminated in what WWE deemed “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever.”

No. 16 is current WWE champion Drew McIntyre and No. 25 is current challenger Randy Orton. The latter is arguably the superstar who has had the most impressive all-around year in WWE both in-ring and on the microphone.

However, McIntyre is also on an impressive streak of his own in taking down each of the three challengers in dominant fashion. He took down The Beast Incarnate at WrestleMania 36 in the main event that lasted a handful of minutes.

Two weeks ago, on Monday Night Raw, Orton issued his challenge to McIntyre by saying he was “missing” something and determined that void is where the WWE championship should be.

McIntyre accepted Orton’s challenge and defeated Dolph Ziggler in their second extreme rules contest that same night. However, Orton RKO’d the victor following the conclusion of the match and the show closed as The Viper showed why he deservedly has that nickname.

The champion and his next challenger came face-to-face the next week on Raw. McIntyre contrasted the paths each of the two superstars have taken to stardom, noting his included a firing and Orton’s included propulsion from Evolution.

McIntyre looked strong coming out of that promo, but no matter how well he performs on the microphone, it seems his 2020 resume is not as sharp as Orton’s.

Randy Orton may not have competed in any title matches thus far in the year, but he won “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” against Edge and competed in a brawl with The Rated R Superstar two months prior at WrestleMania.

Orton has also fought in Unsanctioned matches against the likes of Christian and The Big Show. He RKO’d Beth Phoenix earlier in the year as the feud with Edge built. Ric Flair has even seen some TV time in support of his former Evolution counterpart.

Physically? Drew McIntyre has the gold around his waist and took down Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley and Dolph Ziggler all in four months’ time.

The intangibles? Randy Orton has massive headway in getting into the minds of his opponents and delivering when it has mattered.

The clash between WWE’s two biggest male superstars this year is sure to provide an enormous result.
