McIntyre: It’s Time for More Timelord

Following tonight’s disappointing loss to the Miami Heat, there were few positives to take away from the game. One of which is yet another solid showing from first-round pick Robert Williams, aka “Timelord”.

Williams got on the court in the third quarter, with the Celtics down by 26. The size and ability of the young Louisiana native was a large part of what fueled 21-3 Celtic run in the third quarter to cut the deficit. Though as the third quarter ended and Williams returned to the bench, the Celtics fell off and they went on to lose 115-99.

Williams finished the game with 14 minutes played, grabbing four rebounds and scoring a beautiful alley-oop. Those stats are not the most appealing, but in his 14 minutes the rookie grabbed as many rebounds as Al Horford did in 23 minutes, and one more than Daniel Theis did in 13 minutes.

Williams defensive ability was also much more consistent than his fellow centers, finishing with a plus-minus of plus 15 in a 16 point loss. He ended with a block and a steal apiece, but should Williams see the floor more, fans are sure to be in for more than just that.

The young center has shown in fewer opportunities that he adds large value to this team. His athleticism, size, and defensive ability are all perfect aspects for the Celtics lineup, and as he continues to develop his offensive game will come around. Brad Stevens has one of the most underrated prospects to come out of the 2018 NBA Draft, and he’s already beloved by fans; it’s time for him to see more action on the court.
