Matt Barnes: HEAT looking to pair up Jimmy Butler and Bradley Beal

Jacari McRae | July 1st, 2019

It appears the Miami Heat will finally land a star by acquiring Jimmy Butler through a sign and trade. So far, the team will be sending guard Josh Richardson to the Philadelphia 76ers and the Heat will try to move Goran Dragic to a third team. Once the Butler trade is finalized, the Heat will try to land another star. One name that’s been thrown around is Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal.

Late Sunday evening on ESPN’s “The Jump”, Matt Barnes (Yes, that Matt Barnes) mentioned he heard the Heat were looking to pair up Butler and Beal this season.

It’s no secret the Heat have been eyeing Beal. Since he was drafted into the league, the Wizards guard has evolved from being a one-dimensional shooter into one of the league’s top shooting guards. Unfortunately, the Washington Wizards reportedly told teams that they’re not trading Beal. And it’s unclear what the Heat would offer for him, but we can assume it’ll probably have to be a collection of players and picks. They’ll have to make a strong competitive offer to change the Wizards’ mind. Still, IF Miami were to pull this off, it would significantly improve the team.

This past season, Beal earned $25.4 million and is owed $55.8 million over the next two seasons combined. The 26-year-old averaged career highs in points (24.7), assists (5.0) and rebounds (5.0) per game.
