Markelle Fultz has reportedly chosen to decline workouts with any team that is not the number one overall pick holding Boston Celtics. Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer first reported this news on Tuesday.
“It almost feels like I belong here,” Fultz told ESPN’s Jeff Goodman during his visit with the Celtics.
Fultz is almost unanimously regarded as the NBA Draft’s top prospect making it no surprise he only has Boston on his mind. After a stellar one year stint at the University of Washington during which Fultz averaged 23.2 points, 5.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game, he appears more than NBA ready.
If Fultz does choose to stick with his decision to only work out for the Celtics, he’ll be the second player in this draft class to do so. UCLA point guard and number two prospect Lonzo Ball will reportedly only work out for the Los Angeles Lakers who hold the second overall selection.
Ball’s father, LaVar, informed Ryan Ward of Lakers Nation about his son’s decision back in May.
ESPN’s Chris Forsberg reported Celtic’s general manager Danny Ainge had the following to say in regards to Ball: “We don’t deal with [Ball’s camp] all that much. They didn’t show up at the combine, which is very common — many of the top 10 or 15 players don’t show up for the combine. … We just tried to get him in for a workout and they politely said no.”
