Mario Mandzukic was a beloved forward at Juventus over the past four years, an asset that Juventus will miss but inevitably drove away from the club themselves. With the many top-notch additions brought to the club since the hiring of head coach Maurizio Sarri, Mandzukic had found himself in a disappointing situation left off of the first team. With this turn of events, the transfer of the Croatian forward was inevitable, the question here is where will the 33-year-old veteran be taking his talents to now?

Mario Mandzukic has turned down offers from a number of big-name clubs in the past including this past summer, as many Juventus players have. This time around, the club closest tied to the acquisition of Mandzukic was Manchester United. Manchester United was linked to the signing of Mandzukic after the summer sale of Romelu Lukaku to another Series A club, Internazionale Milan, but sadly Manchester United didn’t win out on the Mandzukic lottery as he chose to go away from any of the top leagues in the country that he has bounced around in the past.

Mandzukic has chosen to take his talents to the Qatar Stars League and join Al-Duhail Sports Club. Mandzukic will be joining former Juventus teammate Medhi Benatia at Al-Duhail, who transferred to the Qatari club one year prior. Al-Duhail currently sits atop the league’s standings with 29 points through 11 games, leading by four points over the next best team Al Rayyan.

Mandzukic played for four different clubs in the last decade, two in the Bundesliga (Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich), one in La Liga (Atletico Madrid), and finally his most recent club in Serie A, Juventus. After playing for three of league’s top clubs this move is one that was not completely expected, Mandzukic though will be joining a strong club in his newest venture that is looking to win their league title for the seventh time in the clubs history. Al-Duhail hasn’t gotten past the quarter-finals in the AFC Champions League in the club’s history, we’ll see if Mandzukic can be the difference in the club surpassing this threshold in 2020.
