Manchester United vs. Tottenham Preview

Manchester United’s home match against Tottenham on Saturday is easily the pick of the Premier League action this weekend. Even though United is above Spurs in the league table, the Red Devils have every reason to fear losing this spot by the end of the weekend, as per the latest odds on Bet Station. Tottenham’s form has been very patchy, but they have the potential to wreak havoc at Old Trafford on the day. Everton was on receiving end of a thrashing only a few days ago and Spurs have the momentum coming into the fixture.

Ralf Rangnick’s men have a lot of issues off the field. The absence of Cristiano Ronaldo for the recent Manchester derby coupled with the heavy loss in this game has put United in a spot of bother just ahead of such a crucial fixture. Even then, one should not forget that the loss against the Premier League table leaders happens to be the first for United in nine games. Previously, United had only lost to Wolves in this calendar year. Despite the recent setbacks in the Premier League, United remains in a good position with regard to qualification for the Champions League quarter-finals.

Problems on both sides

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s only focus from now till the end of the season will be the English Premier League, as they have been knocked out of all of the cup competitions. Antonio Conte and his Spurs team have been coming up with statements and performances that are widely different from each other. Spurs have had big wins over Leeds and Everton, but they have also been losing at the hands of Burnley and Middlesbrough. One of the big advantages for Conte will be the availability of the full squad barring one or two players. The update about the injury situation will become clear just a few days before the game.

Manchester United have plenty of injury problems and troubles of their own. Edinson Cavani and Ronaldo were unavailable for the recent Manchester derby. It is highly unlikely that both the forwards will make it for this match. In such a scenario, manager Ralf Rangnick will once again have to go with the changed formation that can mean more trouble for the Red Devils. In the head-to-head records, however, Manchester United have a significant advantage over Spurs after managing to beat the opponent on four occasions in the last six meetings. Especially when the game takes place at Old Trafford, Spurs tend to do quite poorly. Even in the recent losses to Burnley and Middlesbrough, the defeats have come in away matches.

Conte has been struggling to get a consistent ongoing, but Spurs’ biggest boost ahead of this fixture will be the form of Harry Kane. The England international is back on form with goals in three of the last five matches for Tottenham. It was not long ago that Spurs suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of Manchester United back in October. A sweet revenge will be quite nice for Spurs and it may also help them get a huge boost in the race to finish in the top four.
