Manchester United Rejects Offer from Frankfurt

The summer transfer window is currently open, and we’ve seen a few players already sign with different teams. Several clubs have set out to strengthen their club for the season in hopes of making a better title challenge.

Rebuffing the Offer

According to a report making rounds in the media, Premier League giants Manchester United have rebuffed a £27 million offer to sign Eintracht Frankfurt winger Filip Kostic. Throughout the transfer window this summer, the Red Devils were seen to have spent most of their resources chasing after the wide attacker, with Borussia Dortmund Jadon Sancho topping their target list. The price tag of £108 million placed on the young attacker is enough to push all suitors away. Considering the current financial crisis in football currently due to the Covid-19 outbreak, United feels that the Bundesliga outfit’s asking price is way too high.

With that in mind, the English giants will be looking elsewhere and as rumors have it, United have developed an interest in Juventus Douglas Costa and Barcelona Ousmane Dembele. Serbian winger Kostic has eventually named among the list of players the club developed interest on.
Bundesliga side Frankfurt was reported to have offered the Serbia international to the Premier League outfit earlier in the transfer window. But the offer was rejected before it even materialized into a deal as the Red Devils boards rebuff the offer with a blunt ‘NO’.

More Interests

The 27-year-old winger started his football career with his native club Radnički Kragujevac. He then signed for Eredivisie outfit Groningen, where he spent three seasons before moving to Germany to sign for VfB Stuttgart. Kostic
spent two campaigns with Stuttgart before joining Hamburger SV. He eventually signed a permanent contract with Frankfurt in 2019. Before that, he was formerly sent on loan to Frankfurt from Hamburger back in 2018, as he was able to bag 10 goals and created 13 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions before signing a permanent deal.

For the 2019/20 campaign, the Serbian winger scored 12 goals and assisted 18 in 55 matches in all competitions for the German club. He achieved double digits on goals and assists in a campaign that is already a good feat for the Serbian.

Kostic also represented his country at international levels. He was able to earn 34 caps, scoring two goals and creating 7 assists in the process. The
Red Devils’ attack had already been put in question last season, but after the restart of the League, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood reignited their form for the remainder as they won themselves a spot in the top four, while betting on football helped their fans in predicting how their campaign will end.

Rashford scored 22 goals and 11 assists in 44 matches. Martial bagged 23 goals and created 12 assists. Greenwood was able to find the back of the 19 times. He also created five assists in 51 appearances in his debut season.

In United’s frontline, just those three are available in the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s team. The Red Devils don’t have many options upfront and want to bring in new attackers. The club hopes to bring in new competition and also relieve the stress on the three players.
