Los Angeles City Council Voting to Strip World Series Titles from Red Sox, Astros

Losing consecutive World Series titles in 2017 and 2018 doesn’t matter to the Los Angeles Dodgers and their fans. After choking in back to back seasons, the L.A. city council still believes the MLB should reward the Dodgers with the 2017 and 2018 World Series title.

City council members in Los Angeles are in the process of voting for a resolution asking Major League Baseball and Commissioner Rob Manfred to strip the World Series titles from both the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox.

L.A. city council members Gil Cedillo and Paul Koretz, both lifelong Dodger fans, drafted the resolution earlier this week amidst sign-stealing allegations from both the Astros and Red Sox. The council members will vote on the drafted resolution next week.

Manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow were fired from the Astros, along with Red Sox manager and former Astros bench coach Alex Cora this week. Both managers were fired solely for their actions in the 2017 season where Houston was admittedly cheating by stealing signs using video cameras.

The Red Sox, on the other hand, were forced to fire Cora after reports said that he would get a hefty punishment for his involvement in the 2017 sign-stealing scandal. Boston is also being investigated by the league for allegedly using the replay room in the team’s clubhouse during the regular season to pick up on pitchers’ tendencies. This is no different than watching film on an NFL football game.

But this isn’t about the Red Sox or Astros, or their cheating scandals. This is about the Los Angeles Dodgers and their fans attempting to strip the 2017 and 2018 World Series trophies from the two teams.

“This is an equity and justice thing,” Cedillo told the Los Angeles Times. “Who was the best team in 2017? Who was the best team in 2018? It was the Dodgers. They got beat by teams that were cheating.”

Red Sox management fought back on the narrative in their press conference Wednesday afternoon, saying “absolutely, yes” when Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy was asked if he felt that Red Sox beat the Dodgers fair and square in the 2018 World Series.

The 2017 Astros have a lot of explaining to do and the Dodgers may ultimately have a gripe for that season as they lost in Game 7 of the World Series. As far as the 2018 season, the Red Sox were the best team by far.

Winning 108 regular-season games and then cruising past the Yankees in the ALDS and the Astros in the ALCS before eventually destroying the Dodgers four games to one in the World Series proves that there is no doubt that Boston was the best team that season. Not to mention that it was proven that the 2018 Red Sox physically could not have used the video replay room in the postseason.

The Dodgers have made the postseason every year since 2013. That’s seven straight playoff appearances and no World Series titles. Since 2008, they have 11 NLDS appearances, six NLCS appearances, two World Series appearances, and no titles.

The Dodgers deserve no sympathy.
