Looking Back at Malcolm Jenkins' Eagles Career

Alex Kielar | March 21st, 2020

The Philadelphia Eagles decided to let Malcolm Jenkins walk, not paying him the money he wanted. On Wednesday, Jenkins signed back with the team that drafted him, the New Orleans Saints for four years, $32 million with $16.5 million guaranteed. Jenkins obviously would have helped the Eagles this year, but they were more worried about the last year or two of a four year deal. At the end of the deal he will be turning 36, and he could start to lose his swagger; the Eagles also want to get younger.

Jenkins played 6,818 of 6,908 total defensive snaps (98.7%) in the regular season and playoffs, while 60 of the 90 plays he missed were in the season finale of 2017 when the NFC East was locked up. The three-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion while in Philly posted a thank you to the fans and organization on Instagram.

So to give Jenkins an Eagles sendoff I will be breaking down his top ten plays and moments of his six-year career in Philadelphia. Let’s get into it.

10. Brings Out Dance Moves After Win – 2017

After a tough-fought win over the Panthers in week six in 2017, Jenkins brought out his best dance moves in the locker room, celebrating the team improving to 5-1.

9. Jaws with Dez Bryant

Prior to the Eagles week 15 game vs the Dallas Cowboys in 2014, Bryant went after Jenkins and they jawed for a few minutes back in fourth. It didn’t get physical, but it was a great hype up to the rivalry game on a Sunday night.

8. Picks off Dak Prescott in the End Zone

In a big 37-9 blowout of the Dallas Cowboys in week 11 of 2017, Jenkins picked off Dak in the end zone on fourth down. The interception basically sealed the victory for the Eagles as they would improve to 9-1 on the season. You can find the video here

7. Pick Six vs Redskins – 2016

In week six of the 2016 season, Jenkins picked off Kirk Cousins while the Washington Redskins were driving down the field, down by a touchdown. Jenkins took it to the house for a 65-yard pick-six.

6. Almost Drops the Super Bowl Trophy

While the Eagles were celebrating their first ever Super Bowl victory in 2018 at the parade on Broad Street, Jenkins went to pick up the Lombardi Trophy and almost dropped it. He blamed being to “turnt up” for this almost horrible incident.

5. Pick Six vs 49ers – 2014

In week four against the San Fransico 49ers in 2014, Jenkins picked off Colin Kaepernick, weaved in and out of hopeful tacklers (including Kaep) and took it the distance to give the Eagles the lead for the time being.

4. Two Picks vs Giants – 2016

On Thursday Night Football against the New York Giants in week 16 of the 2016 season, Jenkins had a great game, picking off Eli Manning twice, making six tackles, and defending several passes.

3. Channels Inner Brian Dawkins

Before the Eagles blow-out victory over the Minnesota Vikings in the 2017 NFC Championship Game, Jenkins gave a speech to the team, that was channeling of how hype Dawkins got while a member of the Eagles.

2. Brandin Cooks Super Bowl Hit

Jenkins laid a vicious hit on Cooks in Super Bowl 52 that forced Cooks to leave the game after nearly getting knocked out cold.

1. 100-Yard Pick Six

There shouldn’t be an argument that this is the best play and/or moment of Jenkins’ Eagles career. That being his longest pick-six, a 100-yard return off of arguably the greatest quarterback of all-time in Tom Brady. The six was one of the fuels to an Eagles upset victory over the Patriots in 2015.

To help work towards replacing Jenkins, the Eagles signed former Denver Broncos safety Will Parks on Saturday to a one-year deal. The 25-year old out of Arizona played four years for Denver. I will have more on him and the signing in my next article.
