Locks, Stacks, and Barrels: MLB DFS for September 25th, 2019

Tonight we are looking at another nice 12-game slate for MLB DFS. There isn’t a wealth of aces tonight but there are solid options nonetheless. There are a ton of bats though and we will have to mix and match wisely to find those values so we can pay up for pitching. So let’s get right into it.

Locks

Jeff Samardzija – This is a nice value play at $7,500 on DraftKings. Shark is facing the Colorado Rockies tonight after the two teams went 16 innings last night. While Samardzija doesn’t offer great strikeout upside in general, he has fared well against the Rockies this season. In three starts the Giants righty is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA and 22 Ks in 18.2 innings. The Rockies slashed .156/.203/.328 in those three contests. If you take the value with Shark then you can pair him with an ace like…

Jacob deGrom – He is the highest-priced pitcher on DK at $12,000 but is likely very well worth it. The Mets ace leads the league in Ks with 248. In his last 20 starts, he has a 1.95 ERA and a 171/25 K/BB in 134 innings with opponents slashing .200/.244/.297. There isn’t much to say about his opponent tonight. The Miami Marlins are bad at hitting the baseball, coming in last in the league in runs (597), HRs (137) and OPS (.673). Don’t overthink this. Go chalk tonight with deGrom.

Frankie Montas – He’s back. After serving his 80-game suspension, the Oakland A’s will roll out their young stud. Before the suspension, Montas was 9-2 with a 2.70 ERA and 97 Ks in 90 innings. Although he last pitched on June 20th, the A’s have kept him stretched out and he is well-rested. At $10,100 on DK, he is a little pricey but he gets to face the Los Angeles Angels without Trout. Great play if you want the upside while still saving nearly 2k vs going with deGrom.

Stacks

Cleveland Indians vs Ross Detwiler – The Tribe now has back-to-back double-digit games after last night’s Jose Ramirez show. Detwiler has been a whipping boy this season. He has a 6.98 ERA and has given up a ghastly 18 HRs in just 59.1 innings. Nearly one of every 15 hitters (6.5%) Detwiler has faced have taken him yard. He faced the Indians on Labor Day and didn’t get out of the third inning before giving up four runs on four hits and issuing six walks. The wind will be blowing out to CF at about 14 mph tonight. Roll Tito’s boys out there with confidence.

Houston Astros vs Yusei Kikuchi – You can usually stack the Astros bats. Tonight is no different and the big boys down south have seen Kikuchi a few times this year. George Springer, Jose Altuve, and Yordan Alvarez, in particular, are a combined 10-18 with a double, triple, and two bombs against the Seattle lefty. Kikuchi has disappointed in his adjustment to the MLB game. He sports a 5.55 ERA and has given up 36 HRs in just 155.2 innings.

Barrels

Yoan Moncada – Although Moncada went 0-4 last night, he had a 10-game hitting streak snapped. In those 10 games, nine of them were multi-hit ones. He is $4,600 on DK and is facing Shane Bieber, but he is 6-12 with two HRs off the Cleveland righty and as mentioned before, the wind will be blowing out in Chicago.

Rougned Odor – It was a slugfest down in Arlington last night and Odor was part of it with a HR and a couple walks. At $4,200 on DK he is affordable and the hits should keep on coming as he is 8-15 with a HR against Red Sox starter Rick Porcello.

Giancarlo Stanton – He is still only $4,000 on DK. Since he came back last week, the big man is 4-14 with two doubles and a HR. Stanton has fared well against Charlie Morton going 9-24 with a bomb. Very cheap power option and will probably not be widely owned.
