Locks, Stacks, and Barrels: MLB DFS for September 20th, 2019

John Lepore | September 20th, 2019

Aside from one afternoon game today, there is a full 14-game slate tonight. With so many choices for our lineups, the task of picking the right players can seem daunting. Have no fear. Baseball DFS is every day and sticking to what your research tells you will work out over the long haul. Last week my picks didn’t turn out exactly how I would’ve liked. We are back at it again though to hopefully win a little cash. Let’s get to it.

Locks

Charlie Morton – He is facing the Boston Red Sox in Tropicana Field tonight. While the Sox have a dangerous lineup, it may be a lot less potent as they are likely without J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts for tonight’s game. Either way, Morton is home sweet home. In his last eight starts at the Trop, Morton has seven games of 8+ Ks. On the season he has thrown 92 innings there and has a 2.74 ERA, 0.978 WHIP, and a 126/23 K/BB rate. Morton has been extremely good at keeping hitters in the ballpark as well. He has faced 744 batters this season and has only allowed 14 bombs.

Eric Lauer – The Padres lefty will be in Petco to take on their division rival the Arizona Diamondbacks. While Lauer isn’t someone that generally garners a serious look, this is a great value play at $7,600 on DraftKings. Lauer has a 3.08 ERA at home and has only allowed eight home runs in 73 innings at Petco. He has also increased his strikeout production. Since the beginning of July, he has a 55/19 K/BB rate in 53.2 innings. On the other side, the Diamondbacks have struggled with the bats a bit. In September they have a team OPS of .668 and have only hit 14 HRs in 17 games. On their last road trip, they scored only 16 runs in seven games. They will also likely be without their young star Ketel Marte again.

Others worth a look: Drew Smyly @Cle, Dylan Cease @Det

Stacks

New York Yankees vs Jacob Waguespack – The Yankees are killing the ball lately. In their last 11 games, they have scored 83 runs and lead the league in runs scored for the season with 905. Waguespack has thrown 7.1 innings against the Bronx Bombers this season and has given up 10 hits, 6 runs, 3 HRs, and has a 5/6 BB/K rate. You can mix and match just about any of the Yankees but Didi Gregorius may be a player you want in this stack. He’s $4,500 and had two hits and a SB yesterday so he may be getting comfortable at the plate.

Barrels

Avisail Garcia – He is facing Rick Porcello tonight and is 12-30 with two bombs against the Boston righty in his career. Garcia has also been raking lately going 15 for his last 40 with four doubles and a HR. Although he will be hitting seventh, Garcia is only $4,300 on DraftKings so he is a nice option so you can spend up on your other outfielders.

Jose Abreu – The Chicago White Sox first baseman actually leads the AL in RBI with 119. He has a very nice matchup tonight. Although Comerica tends to be a pitcher’s park, Abreu likes hitting there. In seven games this season in Detroit he is 12-27 with 4 doubles, a HR, and 8 RBI along with a 3/2 BB/K rate. Tonight Abreu is facing Jordan Zimmermann who he also hits well going 11-26 with 2 HRs and 8 RBI against the Tigers righty.

Others worth a look: The Brandons from San Francisco, Belt and Crawford. They are each 10 for their last 23. Career vs Mike Foltynewicz: Brandon Belt is 6-16 with 3 HRs, Crawford is 10-19 with 3 HRs. Belt is $3,800 on DK and Crawford is $3,300 on DK. Both are nice cheap options to allow you to spend money elsewhere.
