Locks, Stacks, and Barrels – MLB DFS for April 10th

John Lepore | April 10th, 2019

The baseball season is a grind. It’s every single day. We will approach DFS the same way and be winners at the end of the season even if we have our hot streaks and slumps. Let’s dive in on the plays for today.

Locks

Matthew Boyd – He has been looking great this year. In his two starts, he has 23 Ks in 11.1 IP and hasn’t allowed a HR. Boyd is facing a Cleveland team struggling to score runs. They have an OPS of .585 and have struck out 105 times in 10 games. They also have only one HR off a lefty in 97 PAs this year.

Kevin Gausman – Although this game is at Coors Field, the wind will be blowing in from CF at approximately 12 mph. Even at home, the Rockies have not been hitting well with only a .746 OPS and 21 runs in five games. The Rockies are also without three big lefties in their lineup as Daniel Murphy, David Dahl, and Ryan McMahon are all on the IL. Gausman looked sharp in his first game of the season giving up only two hits and no runs in seven innings of work. This will also be the first time Gausman will be facing Colorado in his career.

Noah Syndergaard – I know the Minnesota Twins rocked Jacob deGrom last night and broke his QS streak. We have to look at that game as an anomaly. Thor brings the Twins back down to earth today with the wind blowing in from LF at about 10 mph. Syndergaard has been stellar at home throughout his career with a 2.67 ERA and a 6.06 K/BB rate at Citi Field. He’s also only given up 21 HRs in 47 games at home. Thor is especially tough on righties allowing only a .607 OPS in his career.

Stacks

Seattle Mariners – The Ms are tearing the cover off the ball so far this season. They have a .942 OPS with 33 HRs in 13 games. Jay Bruce has only nine hits but seven of them have gone over the fence and the Mariners have four other guys with four HRs or more. They will be facing Heath Fillmyer who has all of 82.1 innings of major league experience. With the wind blowing out to LF at 16 mph at Kauffman stadium tonight, feel confident in your power-hitting stack.

Chicago Cubs – The Cubbies may be 3-7 but it’s not for lack of runs. They’ve scored 72 runs in their 10 games and have a team slash of .289/.380/.486. Six of the 10 players with 20+ PAs have an OBP of .383 or higher. The veteran Cubs team will be facing Jordan Lyles who is a pitch to contact pitcher. In his career, he has a 3.1 BB/9 rate and only a 6.4 K/9 rate. Batters also hit .280 against him and the Cubs have hit .322 against Lyles at Wrigley.

Barrels

George Springer – He has faced James Paxton 33 times and has eight hits, three of them being HRs. He has eaten up lefties in his career with a .911 OPS. Springer has started the season off well also with three HRs and nine RBI in 12 games.

Kendrys Morales – Morales is 4-for-12 in his career vs. Dan Straily with a double and two HRs. He also likes hitting at Camden Yards, posting an .828 OPS there for his career.

Miguel Cabrera – Although Trevor Bauer has been lights out this year, consider this a contrarian pick. Miggy is 10-for-29 lifetime against the Cleveland ace and has walked seven times and only struck out four times. He sees Bauer well and considering Bauer walked six his last time out, Miggy should be a good bet for points
