The baseball season is a grind. It’s every single day. We will approach DFS the same way and be winners at the end of the season even if we have our hot streaks and slumps. Every day there are safe bets that flop and values that hit big, but we need to stick with our strategy in evaluating and playing. Let’s take a look at what we have today.
Locks
Chris Sale – He is usually on everyone’s radar and today is no exception. Although a little shaky in his last start vs. the Toronto Blue Jays, he has had four starts in the month of June and has given up a total of five earned runs with a 40/4 K/BB rate. Of course, he is facing his former team in the Chicago White Sox. In his career against the pale hose since coming to Boston, he has a 29/4 K/BB rate in 19 innings.
German Marquez – Starting him on the road has been good for DFS players this season. He has a 3.02 ERA, 0.794 WHIP, and a 55/8 K/BB rate away from Coors Field. Today he faces the San Francisco Giants who he absolutely shut down last time he was at Oracle Park to the tune of a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts.
Yu Darvish – After a disastrous beginning to the season, the Cubs’ big righty has started looking like his old self somewhat. In his last five starts, Yu has thrown 30.1 innings with a 30/9 K/BB rate and has allowed a minuscule .170 BAA and an OPS of just .567. Also, three of the Atlanta Braves’ big bats in Josh Donaldson, Freddie Freeman, and Brian McCann are a combined 8-37 with 15 Ks against Darvish in their careers.
Stacks
Colorado Rockies – They are on the road…I know. This may seem like a contrarian pick as Jeff Samardzija shut the Rockies down last time he faced them at home. That was an anomaly. The combo of Nolan Arenado, Daniel Murphy, Ian Desmond, and Charlie Blackmon is 43-122 with 11 doubles, 4 triples, and 4 home runs vs. The Shark.
New York Yankees – They are facing Trent Thornton for the second time this year. The first time they put up four runs on five hits and three walks while Gary Sanchez blasted one. The Yankees just set a major league record by hitting a HR in 28 consecutive games. Why jump off the train now?
Barrels
Francisco Lindor – He will be facing Jakob Junis. Lindor is 7-16 with 3 HRs against the Royals’ righty. He also eats up KC pitching in his career. Frankie has had 302 PAs against the Royals and he has managed a cool .999 OPS with 20 HRs and 11 SBs.
Michael Conforto – The Mets’ outfielder is 2-6 against Nick Pivetta in his career but both hits have been home runs. He seems like he is starting to turn it up a notch going 5-18 with 2 HRs in his last 5 games. This would be a good time to jump on him as his price hasn’t been inflated.
Elvis Andrus – The Texas Rangers’ shortstop has had 8 multi-hit games in his last 14. He is also 5-13 in his career against Tigers’ lefty Matthew Boyd. Although the game is in Detroit, Andrus should continue his more-than-likely multi-hit games. At $4,500 on DraftKings, he is a bargain for a .300 hitter.
