Manchester City currently sits atop the English Premier League. They have been in control for a while, but with Liverpool only trailing them by six points, the title is far from secure. Liverpool has 13 Premier League matches left to play this season. Man City has 12 remaining. Names such as Manchester United, Tottenham, and Arsenal are out of contention. Chelsea would need a miracle to climb 13 points to take the title. Liverpool looks to be the only real threat.
As far as Arsenal and Tottenham go, the best hope is to find a way to finish at least fifth, in order to secure a spot in next season’s Europa League. In Man United’s case, a top-four finish is the best they can pull for. Liverpool has not lost a single game since December 28. Man City recently lost their first EPL match since October 30. Both clubs are still in contention for the FA Cup, as well as the Champions League. Liverpool will next take on Chelsea in the EFL Cup final this Sunday.
What are Liverpool’s chances to win the Premier League?
While it’s possible to Liverpool to win it, their chances are slim. Man City’s remaining EPL schedule shouldn’t give them any problems, aside from April 9, when they actually host Liverpool. In the latter’s case, winning the rest of their EPL games is the clearest path to securing the title. One loss can end their hopes, unless Man City loses at least twice.
Liverpool’s remaining schedule includes matches against Man United, Arsenal, and Tottenham. Man City will host Man United on March 6, but should not have to worry about their crosstown rivals. Based on the remaining schedule of both clubs, it looks as though Liverpool does not have an advantage. They must beat Man City and hope that United can do the same.
While Manchester City holds the advantage, anything can happen.
