Another key player’s status on the team has been called into question as defensive tackle Alan Branch though being the best tackle on the roster, has been scratched from tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Branch who signed a two-year, $12 million contract extension this past offseason, has only taken a grand total of 81 snaps through four games this season.
Branch spoke to reporter and New England Patriots insider Mike Giardi about his role with the team and how he feels about the entire situation.
“Everybody wants to play,” Branch said to Giardi. “It’s upsetting. At the same time, it’s not my pay grade to make those decisions.”
Branch was asked about his playing time earlier on in the season and some would argue the response he gave is what put him more firmly inside head coach Bill Belichick’s doghouse.
“That’s something you’ll have to ask Bill,” Branch told reporters in late September. “That’s not my pay grade or for me to talk about. That’s a question to ask Bill.”
Branch could be subject to possible trade talks come deadline time as the Patriots are in need of help elsewhere on the field.
