LAFC Drop Their First Game Of the Season

LAFC looked flat early on and the Vancouver Whitecaps took advantage for their first win of the season. The Whitecaps looked determined early on and it paid dividends quickly as they notched their only goal in the 26th minute. LAFC experiences a loss for the first time this season after four straight victories. The win for Vancouver is head coach Marc Dos Santos first win of his tenure with the team. LAFC still holds sole possession of first in the west.

Questionable depth?

Several young guys got the start for LAFC in what was a winnable game. It made sense, right? Let some of the big guys get some rest, after all, the black and gold will be back in action on Sunday in a huge game against the Sounders. While the effort they gave was admirable, the back line seemed to struggle, especially early on. The decision to start a brand new back line with three of the four having very little experience especially, together, was strange. The back line lacked chemistry. Maybe a mixture of youth and experience would have been better? Interesting call by Bob Bradley.

Resilience

For the first time this season, we get to see what LAFC will be like coming off a loss. The Sounders are currently second in the western conference. A loss against them would mean a tie at the top of the western conference for the black and gold. Overall this loss is nothing more than one game. Plenty of games moving forward and LAFC was eventually going to lose. It was just the way they lost that was frustrating. Flat early on and the team squandered several good chances. I’m sure Sunday can’t come fast enough for the players.
