Knicks Cam Reddish in a Tight Spot Due to Tom Thibodeau

Kincks Cam Reddish in a tight spot

Since his arrival, Cam Reddish is a hotly debated name for the New York Knicks with little court time. The winger isn’t getting much room in the team rotation with spot boost status. But this could have a reason. According to Jake Fischer, from the Bleacher Report portal, Tom Thibodeau would not have approved the athlete’s signing, not being excited to use him on the team. This must justify the young man’s short time on the court.

Cam Reddish arrived to add to the Knicks squad in search of a recovery in the season. The team is in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, outside the play-in zone. Reddish averaged 11.9 points this current season with the Hawks shirt before being traded. The New York Knicks are going through a dark time, for sure. They were fourth place in the East last season but only won 25 of 57 games so far and, with that, would even be out of the play-in. Off the court, the situation sounds equally chaotic to make matters worse. According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the acquisition of Cam Reddish opened up an internal crisis behind the scenes for the Knicks.

The experienced reporter found that there is, in short, a kind of war between “caciques” in the New York direction. These figures have not reached a consensus since the offseason and, therefore, would be blamed for the disappointing campaign this season. Coach Tom Thibodeau, general manager Scott Perry, special adviser William Wesley, and president Leon Rose would be protagonists of the impasse.

Reddish has gained a prominent role in the Knicks’ internal crisis because of the way he’s been taken advantage of since joining the team. Franchise management reportedly resolved to complete the exchange with the Atlanta Hawks even after consulting with Thibodeau and receiving negative feedback. The experienced coach, in turn, responded on the court by simply delaying the inclusion of the player in his rotation.

New Exchange

The franchise’s behind-the-scenes issues were almost entirely exposed by the trade deadline in a new deal. The New Yorkers considered involving Reddish in a new contract less than two months after acquiring him with the Los Angeles Lakers. Berman points out that the negotiations ended up aborted because the exchange would be a “public admission” of mistakes and chaos within the team.

The Knicks gave up forward Kevin Knox and a first-round pick to bring in Reddish, but his impact has been limited so far. The winger, first, did not even enter the court in five of the 12 games in which he was available to Thibodeau. He has just 82 minutes of action with the new team so far, racking up 38 points, eight rebounds, and three assists in that break.

In an unlikely turnaround, the Los Angeles Lakers could make a trade for the acquisition of Cam Reddish in the next few hours. According to Jake Fischer, from the Bleacher Report portal, the Californian officials would be discussing a transaction with the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks for the young winger. The deal can involve up to six athletes and, in addition, multiple drafts picks.

In the business structure found by the reporter, the Angelinos would receive the 22-year-old player and Alec Burks. The Canadians, meanwhile, would have guarded Talen Horton-Tucker and center Nerlens Noel. The New York franchise would ultimately get veteran Goran Dragic and draft picks from both teams. However, it is unclear whether this agreement would be imminent or a remote possibility.

Cam Reddish’s trade with the Lakers would be curious because the Knicks acquired him about a month ago. Fans and experts highly praised the negotiation, but behind the scenes, it did not go through the approval of Tom Thibodeau. The coach, therefore, keeps the boy out of the rotation and does not intend to put him into action. Trading it once more then becomes the only alternative for New York.

Fischer also points out that Kendrick Nunn can finally be involved to close the triple deal. The Lakers are looking for immediate and urgent reinforcements because, with only 26 wins in 56 games, they are in danger of being left out of the playoffs.

Knicks and Raptors

While the Knicks would think about “reducing losses” after the failed acquisition of Reddish, the team also struggles not to miss the playoffs. Dragic, in that sense, would be the kind of experienced reinforcement that appeals to Thibodeau to play right away – very different from the young winger. However, it is worth considering that the New York squad already has two veteran point guards in Kemba Walker and Derrick Rose.
