Keeping up With Kevin Youkilis

Kevin Youkilis was a staple on the Boston Red Sox from 2004 to 2012.

The versatile, third baseman turned first baseman, who could hold down any of the corner outfield positions, won two World Series titles with the team made three trips to the All-Star Game. But, what ever happened to “Yoooouuk” as the Boston faithful would call him?

In 2012, when Bobby Valentine was the skipper of the Red Sox, many questions about Youkilis’ commitment were asked. Valentine started to play the rookie Will Middlebrooks instead of the 2008 Hank Aaron Award winner, then before we knew it one of the “Bad Boys” of the 2004 Red Sox team was gone.

Ben Cherington, the former general manager of Boston, traded him to the Chicago White Sox for pitcher Zach Stewart and utility man Brent Lillibridge. In his last at-bat wearing the white and red, the Ohio native hit a triple which  received him a standing ovation from the Fenway faithful.

Youkilis played a year with the White Sox before he was traded to the New York Yankees where he was hurt for a majority of his stay. After his one-year contract with New York expired. he went on to play for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan where he concluded his last professional season of baseball.

So what Is Kevin Youkilis doing today?

Well, he still has strong ties to Boston sports as he is married to Julie Brady, who is Tom Brady’s sister. The two of them have been married since 2012 and have one child together. Youkilis has three children total.

Youkilis also works for one of his former General Managers, Theo Epstein, as a scout and developmental consultant for the Chicago Cubs. This past season he added another World Series ring to his collection.

Not only that, but the third baseman also opened a brewing company in 2016 in Los Gatos California called, “Loma Brewing Company.” The company won Commercial Beer Brewery of the Year at the California State Fair last year.

When asked if he missed baseball in a recent interview, he answered, “No, Not at all.” He followed that up by saying he enjoys spending time with his family and his company, but he does hit batting practice here and there.
