Injuries have decimated the New York Mets lately. The team has a whopping 16 players out with various injuries, truly testing their depth.
Here is a look at where the team stands in terms of healthy weapons.
Rotation
The Mets’ current rotation has been among the top-five in the National League despite their struggles. With Jacob deGrom just coming back from injury, the rotation immediately gets a huge boost. Further, Taijuan Walker returned this past weekend, giving another boost to the unit. However, after that, the depth is very bleak. Tylor Megill, a Double-A player, is now in the picture due to performance and injuries.

Catcher
This is the one position where the Mets are set. With Tomas Nido red-hot and Patrick Mazeika emerging as a nice depth piece, all New York catchers have a sense of ease at the moment. These two players’ emergences have been valuable with $40 million man James McCann not performing the greatest. The Mets also have plenty of quality depth at catcher for the first time in a long while.

Patrick Mazeika (Triple-A)
Nick Meyer (Triple-A)
Bruce Maxwell (Triple-A)
First Base
Pete Alonso is back from the injured list, and around him, the depth is stable. Outside of Alonso, no first basemen have been injured this season, thus leaving the depth the same as during Spring Training.

David Thompson (Triple-A)
Second Base
Jeff McNeil was just starting to heat up when his hamstring blew out. He and Francisco Lindor had phenomenal chemistry in the middle infield, allowing the Mets to sit among the top-10 defensive teams in the first quarter of the season. In McNeil’s absence, Jose Peraza has become the starter and done a more than adequate job while filling in.

Third Base
New York suffered a big loss at the hot corner when J.D. Davis went down. Davis has had a bumpy rehab in coming back from a hand injury, but beyond this hiccup, the Mets’ depth has not taken a hit. Jonathan Villar has also been extremely good in Davis’s absence.

Shortstop
The Mets have not lost any depth at short beyond backup Luis Guillorme, who will begin rehab soon.

Outfield
The Mets have been truly decimated in the outfield. Jose Martinez has been out since Spring Training with a torn-up knee. Brandon Nimmo is out with a hand injury. Albert Almora Jr. is out with a head injury. Kevin Pillar has a face contusion and broken nose, though he’s playing through it. Michael Conforto is battling a strained hamstring. Replacement Johneshwy Fargas sprained the AC joint in his shoulder.
With all the outfield injuries, the Mets have had to trade for Cameron Maybin (who has since been designated for assignment) and Billy McKinney while taking a look at 22-year-old Khalil Lee. If any more injuries occur, the Mets will be forced to delve deep into their depth.

Lindor and McNeil have had phenomenal chemistry?
