The NFL announced on Friday that they will be suspending New York Jets’ tight end Chris Herndon for the first four games of the upcoming 2019-20 season. His suspension is for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy, as he recently pleaded guilty to a situation in which he drove while intoxicated.

Herndon will be with the team through training camp and the preseason, with the suspension beginning at the start of Week 1 in the regular season. He will miss games against the Bills (Week 1), Browns (Week 2), Patriots (Week 3), and Eagles (Week 5). The Jets’ bye week is in Week 4. He will be eligible to return for Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Jets will definitely miss him during this four-game span. Herndon grew to be one of Sam Darnold’s favorite targets last season. It is unclear who will take his spot come September.
